If I had something secret anywhere that was imperatively important to our national security and I wanted no one else find out about it because of its importance, and it crashed on non-government land somewhere, I'd try to cover it up. Wouldn't want to let the country's enemies know that we've got some secret thing that flies and can do lots of secret stuff. That's what secret is. Same goes for Area 51.

Area 51 is a test site for black projects. When an F-117 crashed near Bakersfield, CA. years ago while the F-117 was still black, wreckage of an F-101 Voodoo was brought in from Area 51 and spread around the crash site to hide the fact that a stealth fighter crashed there. The F-101 was an 1950s aircraft.

As far as Roswell goes, check out Project Mogul.

I have to disagree, and for many reasons, one of which is that Mogul balloons were not classified at all and in fact, were nothing more than research balloons and Mogul balloons were occasionally recovered by civilians for rewards and they even had questionnaires and reward tags attached for civilians who recovered mogul balloon trains.

QUESTIONNAIRE, REWARD AND WARNING TAGS ATTACHED TO PROJECT MOGUL BALLOONS

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------<^>

QUESTIONNAIRE

Please answer this and send to us so that we may pay you the

Reward.

1. On what date and at what hour was the balloon discovered?

2. Where was it discovered? (Approximate distance and direction

from nearest town on map?)

3. Was it observed descending? If so, at what time?

4. Did it float down slowly or fall rapidly?

5. How much kerosene was there in the tank?

And, here are a few examples where Mogul balloons were recovered by civilians yet there were no cover-up stories for those Mogul balloon recoveries by the government because Mogul balloons were nothing more than research balloons.

Mogul Balloon Recovery By Rancher Sid West

June 8. Sun. Rancher, Sid West, found balloon train 25 mi south of High Rolls in mountains.

Contacted him and made arragements to recover equipment Monday. Got all recordings of

balloon flights. Took Treland, Mears, Yinton, Olsen to Alamogordo to catch train this pm

June 9 Mon. Bill Godbee and Do" Reynolds went out to Sid West's ranch south of High Rolls

and brought back recovered balloons- clock, 2 radlosondes. sonobuoy and microphone and lower

....worked on Tests 9 and 10, finishing all Balloon tests? 7, 8, 9, and 10 off this week.

Test 7, slated for 1 July postponed until 2 July as equipment was not ready. 100 tanks Helium obtained from Amarillo Monday evening. Also radiosonde receivers set up by NYU personnel Konday but were not operable.

Test 7 at dawn on July 2 with pibal 1 hr first following with thodlite. Winds were very light and balloons up between A air base and mountains most of time. Included cluster of met balloons. Followed by C-54 for several hours finally landed mountains near road to Cloudcroft. Before gear could be recovered, most of it had been stolen.

Policeman Recovers Mogul Balloon

New York Times, Oct 1, 1948 "Balloon Staggers Down to Brooklyn Tavern,

A MOGUL balloon "floated blithely over the rooftops of Flatbush . . .causing general public excitement . . . before it came to rest on top of a [brooklyn] tavern." Recovered by policeman.

No cover stories for those Mogul balloon recoveries and yet we were lead to believe the reason for the Roswell cover-up was to hide the recovery of a downed Mogul balloon train, which was false and was an attempt by the Air Force to hide the true nature of what was recovered on the Foster ranch and at crash site #2, which many people are unaware of.

Furthermore, the Soviet's first nuclear blast was actually detected by a modified B-29, not a Mogul balloon.

U.S. Intelligence and the Detection of the First Soviet Nuclear Test, September 1949

image01_sm.jpgJoe-1, 29 August 1949. Photo from Peter Curanas displayed on nuclearweaponsarchive.org, and used with permission of

September 1949, President Harry Truman made headlines when he announced that the Soviet Union had secretly tested a nuclear weapon several weeks earlier. Truman did not explain how the United States had detected the test, which had occurred on 29 August 1949 at Semipalatinsk, a site in northeastern Kazakhstan. Using declassified material, much of which has never been published, this briefing book documents how the U.S. Air Force, the Atomic Energy Commission, and U.S. scientific intelligence worked together to detect a nuclear test that intelligence analysts, still unaware of the extent to which the Soviets had penetrated the Manhattan Project, did not expect so soon.

Stalin and the Soviet Politburo were probably stunned by Truman's announcement; they did not know that Washington had a surveillance system for detecting the tell-tale signs of a nuclear test and they wanted secrecy to avoid giving the United States an incentive to accelerate its nuclear weapons activities. (Note 1) Joe-1 (as U.S. intelligence designated it) was also a jolt for U.S. intelligence analysis, which for several years had asserted that the Soviets were unlikely to have the bomb before mid-1953, although mid-1950 was also possible. A few weeks after the test, CIA director Roscoe Hillenkoetter argued that "I don't think we were taken by surprise" because of an error of only a "few months," but not all of his Congressional masters accepted that.

How did the Truman administration discover Moscow’s secret?

Shortly after the Soviet test, on 1 September 1949, a WB-29 ["W" for weather reconnaissance] operated by the Air Force's Weather Service undertook a routine flight from Misawa Air Force Base (Japan) to Eilson Air Force Base (Alaska) on behalf of the secretive Air Force Office of Atomic Energy-1 [AFOAT-1] [later renamed the Air Force Technical Applications Center, or AFTAC]. The plane carried special filters designed to pick up the radiological debris that an atmospheric atomic test would inevitably create. So far none of the flights in the Northern Pacific had picked up a scent, but after this flight returned to Eilson and a huge Geiger counter checked the filters, the technicians detected radioactive traces.

This was the 112th alert of the Atomic Energy Detection System (the previous 111 had been caused by natural occurrences, such as earthquakes). After a complex chain of events, involving more flights to collect more air samples, consultations among U.S. government scientists, consultants, and contractors, including radiological analysis by Tracerlab and Los Alamos Laboratory, and secret consultations with the British government, the U.S. intelligence community concluded that Moscow had indeed conducted a nuclear test. On 23 September 1949, President Truman announced that "We have evidence that within recent weeks an atomic explosion occurred in the U.S.S.R."

What made the detection of Joe-1 possible in the first place was a series of decisions that began in 1947. In September of that year, Army Chief of Staff Dwight D. Eisenhower assigned the Army Air Force, not yet an independent service, with responsibility for establishing an Atomic Energy Detection System (AEDS) so that physical manifestations of overseas nuclear development activity could be discovered. Later that year, the Air Force created what would later become known as AFOAT-1.

During and after World War II, the possibility of detecting radioactive particles and emissions (as well as seismic and acoustic indicators) became the subject of protracted research and development work, which included the collection of radioactive samples following U.S. atomic tests. During 1947-1949, a complex process of review and decision at the Defense Department led to the creation of an "Interim Surveillance Research Net" that was operating routinely by the spring of 1949. A more comprehensive surveillance system integrating radiochemical, seismic, acoustic, and other methods was not yet in place.

And, Mogul balloon scientist were also reporting UFO sightings over the test range in New Mexico. Here is one such document where they were tracking flying saucers. In your link, look for the name; C. B Moore, and then, look for the name of C. B. Moore in the following document. C. B. Moore was one of the people who reported tracking a flying saucer and his report made it in LIFE Magazine in 1952. His report can be found in "Incident 3" from the following link.

So yes, there is a current Roswell cover-up in progress and Mogul balloon teams reported tracking flying saucers, but getting back to Area 51, don't expect to find alien bodies there.

Perhaps, one day, they will have an air show open house at Area 51, but I have to say that Area 51 conducts flight test of secret aircraft.

You are correct! For the sake of national security, there is a need to conduct certain operations in secret, but there are times when those secrets are inadvertently leaked. One such case involved an aircraft that was setting off seismic sensors in the desert of Southern California. Its characteristics were that of an high speed aircraft, but the SR-71 was ruled out.

I think the whole idea with Area 51 backfired once the whole "alien coverup" era started. I mean, here they built this large facility in the middle of nowhere, only to have hundreds of people go there and photograph and document everything there is about the place. Since they've built the place already, the only other option they had was to increase security as well as the no-go zone around it. And who knows, maybe after 50 years of service, the facility is slowly closing?

So you think that whole incident that Roswell found a crashed UFO was false and just a hoax? They make Area 51 seem so secretive, almost as if they aren't just designing aircraft

Why must Area 51 have anything to do with aliens? Who started this idea, and where did they get that idea from? As for the secrecy of Area 51 - is it really that much of a secret? Everybody knows where it is, how it looks like, where you'll find a good spot to take pictures and when. Not to mention every "expert" author who have written hundreds of pages about Area 51, or the billions of witnesses who claims to have worked there. Not much of a secret...

LINK - UFO Shocker! Area 51 secrets revealed. Ex-employees at a mysterious Nevada testing site are finally free to talk

The veterans' stories provide a glimpse of real-life government covert operations, with their everyday routines and moments of excitement.

Noce didn't seek publicity. But when contacted, he was glad to tell what it was like.

"I was sworn to secrecy for 47 years. I couldn't talk about it," he says.

In the 1960s, Area 51 was the test site for the A-12 and its successor, the SR-71 Blackbird, a secret spy plane that broke records at documented speeds that are still unmatched. The CIA says it reached Mach 3.29 (about 2,200 m.p.h. or 3,500 km/h) at a height of 90,000 feet.

But after September 2007, when the CIA displayed an A-12 in front of its Langley, Va., headquarters as part of the agency's 60th birthday, much of the secrecy of those days at Area 51 fell away.

Warning to ufologists: Sorry, although Noce and other Area 51 vets say they saw plenty of secret stuff , none make claims about aliens.

But on to the secrecy part.

Noce remembers always getting paid in cash, signing a phoney name to the receipt, during his several years of working security at the site. It was, in CIA parlance, "a black project."
