A Poem to No One

A Poem to No One

Sunlight reflects off the pedals of a single rose

Another day of her life has begun

And slowly she comes to life after her quiet sleep

With no one to say good morning to

She hums a melody that she learned long ago

More memory than song of once pleasant days

Dressed to please others than to please herself

The wheels carry her into the restless city

To serve those with empty souls and empty minds

She spends her allotted minutes at half day

Sitting quietly alone to have her meager meal

In the old diner filled with noisy hungry faces

Work gives her no sense of accomplishment

The hours are long and the pay is a pitiful sum

Only to live in a flat she can barely afford

When her day is done she returns alone

After a simple meal comes a soothing bath

Washing away the grimy touch of the cold city

Alone in bed she reads an amusing tale

Her lips smile gently and her thoughts drift away

Soon her head in resting on the soft cool pillow

Only her dreams can help her sleep another night

Dreams of someone she can hold and care for

And of someone to hold and care for her

I know I am the one who she dreams of

But all I can do in my dark and lonely world

Is wonder why I cannot find her

Wonderful! I really love the ending!

Thank you BNDGK. I sometimes wonder if I don't get a little too romantic sometimes.
