Top Gear has sparked a major row in New Zealand after authorities were forced to apologise to Maoris for letting the show film a high-speed stunt on a 'spiritual' beach.

Staff from the BBC's flagship motoring show are set to descend on Ninety Mile Beach next week to record a 150kmh scene for the programme, which is fronted by Jeremy Clarkson.

The move has led to an outcry by Maori peoples after the broadcaster was granted special permission to use the beach - also known as Te Oneroa-a-Tohe - at short notice.

In NZ anyway a public road is an area includes beaches, rivers, carparks, driveways, paddocks... anywhere infact as long as the public can gain access by vehicle... a greedy piece of legislation which effectively increases the bounds of empire.

What a load of crap, the natives of this country are only interested in extorting money out of anyone or anything. It's a public road with a speed limit, people drive up and down it all the time and no one says nothing, but as soon as the maoris heard about a tv show being on their "sacred ground" (lol) they would have been standing there with their hands out demanding money.

These are the same ppl who claim to "own" the water in the rivers and demand that they be paid by the people who use "their water" to generate electricity through hydro electric dams, they also claim to "own" all the beaches in the country.

This has nothing to do with spiritual anything and everything to do with them looking for even more hand outs.

The best one I heard lately is that they "own" the moon and stars because they saw those things b4 the European arrived, once you know that, you can understand the mentality of these ppl.

Virtually nothing Top Gear does is "random", everything is a set up (except stuff like scenes in Bolivia on the road of death or Richard Hammond almost being blown straight to Heaven in a race car). The train and the car stunt was an empty train set up by stunt professionals.

Apparently you have not heard that the Government owns all the above regardless of race or belief; and it is up to the Maori and any other group for that matter to spend generations in court and millions of dollars to claim for but not be guaranteed a slice of the desired pie... LOL
