Antibiotic Resistant Diseases

"And routine operations like hip replacements or organ transplants could be deadly because of the risk of infection."

One of the best known superbugs, MRSA, is alone estimated to kill around 19,000 people every year in the United States - far more than HIV and AIDS - and a similar number in Europe.

And others are spreading. Cases of totally drug resistant tuberculosis have appeared in recent years and a new wave of "super superbugs" with a mutation called NDM 1, which first emerged in India, has now turned up all over the world, from Britain to New Zealand.

Last year the WHO said untreatable superbug strains of gonorrhoea were spreading across the world.

I found this an interesting article. They need to get with it on the research before we get to the point getting a simple operation is too risky. Who knows maybe they are trying and can't. Sure wouldn't want to take the chance on breast implants or something like that.

They are trying, honestly.

The title of this graph may as well be 'Aaaaah!'

The day they start saying it's too dangerous to have this crap done is a good day, imo.

Problem is when it becomes too dangerous to get cosmetic surgery it would be too dangerous for other surgeries.

Not necessarily... If it's a risk/benefit decision and the operation is something like an organ transplant, there's a good chance it would be better to have the operation than not have it and possibly die anyway. Whereas the benefits of cosmetic surgery dwindle away to dust when faced with much higher risks of contracting superbugs and dying from the op.
