This doesn't sound good, asking the Russians to consider evacuating their embassy. They want a war or at least idiot boy does and seem to be taking steps to start one.

I'm baffled by this, unless its all hot air flexing ?

Considering the might of the US in terms of its own nuke arsenal, who in their right mind would threaten the US knowing the only superpower ever to use one is the US and the logic that was used to justify it...suicidal

Korea used to be unified but Japan invaded in the run up to WW2. When Japan surrendered one of the terms was that the US gained control of its Korean provinces. The US created South Korea from them and established a Democracy.

The North Koreans were furious that not only had one foreign power invaded and imposed its will on their people but now a second one was. The Korean War followed a few years later in which they attempted to eject the US. The US started badly, then almost crushed North Korea but then China entered the war and gave the Americans a beating. When the US forces were pushed back to the 33rd parallel by the Chinese a cease fire was signed. North korea lay in ruins, its cities reduced to rubble with millions dead. The US has led embargos on them ever since keeping them poor.

It would be an underestimation to say that North Korea hates the US and I personally think they will nuke regardless of the consequences. After what they've experienced they want the total destruction of America and its personal lol.

China is not a democracy in the Western sense of multiple parties. It has only one party, by design, as a form of stability and to avoid partisanship and special interest manipulation. Membership in the party, however, is largely and increasingly based on merit, and the internal workings of the party are representative and general consensus.

Whether or not a given country's government is "Communist" or "socialist" is and always has been subjective. To the extent that it calls itself whatever it calls itself, this can be used, and both China and Vietnam call themselves Communist and socialist.

When Japan Surrendered What is now South Korea fell in the US Zone of Occupation, the North Fell in the Soviet Zone of Occupation. The Soviets where the early pupped masters of North Korea, supplying them with state of the art (for the time) war machines, which caused them to nearly cast the weak south Korean and US Militaries into the sea, it wasnt untill US Re-enforcements from Japan and the US Propper, as well as UN Forces arrived that they crushed the North and nearly destroyed them, then 300,000 Chinese poored over the border.

It just seems if its revenge, its suicidal, and if its for the return to a unified Korea, its pointless unless that's what the south wants ?

Threatening to nuke much stronger nations is only ever going to bring about one response,

I assume any normal person would try to deal with this thru the proper channels...becoming a trusted partner in the world and then campaigning for whatever it is they want, taking into account what the south Koreans want also,

I know take of the democratic tinted specks we're dealing with a communist regime who don't give a rats ass for democracy, I think the biggest mistake NK could make is to start something, not only for them but for the rest of us in terms of not so much WW3 but to inflate this already over inflated ego of the USA military having such power at disposal.

I figure at some point the North Koreans will figure they've gotten out of this tantrum all they are going to get and will return to normal for a few years. Indeed, restarting that reactor may have been their main objective, and now they've done it without further punishment.

They are also doing an excellent job of distracting attention from Iran.

Iran and North Korea have signed a tech and science agreement. So who knows what either really have.

Iran and North Korea have signed a scientific and technological co-operation agreement, bringing the two nations deeply at odds with the US closer together.

Iranian state TV did not provide further details on the document but said it will include setting up joint scientific and technological laboratories and exchange of scientific teams between the two countries.

Not really. Korea was divided due to an agreement between the US and the Soviets, due to the Soviets declaring war on Japan and helping the US deal with their armies in China. While the US helped create South Korea the Soviet Union helped create North Korea. Both withdrew from Korea before the war began.

NK was so "enraged" about foreign influence that they gladly accepted Chinese and Soviet aid and technology. They then invaded the South not the eject the US, who had already left, but to unify the country under their control. SK was in worst shape so they were quickly pushed back until the US was able to send in troops to help them hold out. Further US and UN troops arrived and they were able to push back the NK armies until American troops neared the Chinese border. China had warned the US to say away from their border and so they invaded, pushing the UN forces out of the north. The UN counter attacked and when the war ended they actually held a stretch of NK territory. Both sides suffered serious damage.

After the war the US had little to do with NK not because they wanted them to be poor but because they were enemies. However this didn't stop the US from sending NK over two thousand tons of food from 1996 to 2010 to help them combat famines or to send them nuclear reactors in an effort to get them to give up their own nuclear program or to encourage peace efforts. NK hates the US because they have been told by their government to hate the US as part of their effort to maintain power. After all Vietnam had it just as bad, if not worst, during their war with the US but you don't see them vowing to nuke American cities.

It doesn't take a genius to see that North Korea is furious over their apparent soured relationship with China.

China holds the keys to all of this, but the anger is being deflected at the U.S. and South Korea, which is the only way North Korea can save some face with its people. China is like a parent to a delinquent child, and now the child is very angry with its parent.

China has had enough of North Korea, because they're finally beginning to see the train wreck ahead, that will badly affect their interests, not the least of which could be a nuclear armed Japan, and South Korea. I have my doubts this would come about, but both are very capable, and who could stop them, or blame them?

The greatest danger here is not some accidental shooting, or miscalculation. We've seen plenty of those. The greatest danger is that China loses the only hand she's got left to play, and the cornered tiger decides that he might as well launch a full scale war on the South, forcing the parent to back him up. That's what will happen if the carrot and stick approach fails. That's why we need to make very clear to the leadership in China, that we will use a neutron weapon against the North, if it comes to that. If plans aren't already in place, they should be.

It's time to get tough with China, very tough. We must let them know we will not risk everything, for their sake, and that we're not afraid to kill the North's entire army in one fatal swoop.

As for my crystal ball, it's becoming clearer by the day where this is headed, and we must be prepared to defend the world against China. Diplomacy has failed.

Definition of the Neutron Bomb

"Also called ENHANCED RADIATION WARHEAD, specialized type of small thermonuclear weapon that produces minimal blast and heat but which releases large amounts of lethal radiation. The neutron bomb delivers blast and heat effects that are confined to an area of only a few hundred yards in radius. But within a somewhat larger area it throws off a massive wave of neutron and gamma radiation, which can penetrate armor or several feet of earth. This radiation is extremely destructive to living tissue. Because of its short-range destructiveness and the absence of long-range effect, the neutron bomb would be highly effective against tank and infantry formations on the battlefield but would not endanger cities or other population centers only a few miles away. It can be carried in a Lance missile or delivered by an 8-inch (200-millimetre) howitzer, or possibly by attack aircraft. In strategic terms, the neutron bomb has a theoretical deterrent effect: discouraging an armored ground assault by arousing the fear of neutron bomb counterattack. The bomb would disable enemy tank crews in minutes, and those exposed would die within days. U.S. production of the bomb was postponed in 1978 and resumed in 1981."

I would like peace, but that seems impossible, as peace only allows them to futher escalate their nuclear capabilities, making things much worse in the future.

Hoping that China get's seriously involved in constraining NK's threat posture.

Like other's have said, the entirety of NK's regime needs to go away. Perhaps on a one-way fishing trip to Antartica.

Ah, Carnival Cruise line. :w00t:

From that point, the UN can actually get aid to the starving civilians, instead of the regime raping civilian aid for their military.

Yes the people in North Korea are starving while Idiot Boy is obese. They have problems with cannibalism there because these people don't have enough to eat. Yet he's worried about starting a war and building nuclear weapons.

You should see a satellite image taken at night of the place. Except for one little spot it was dark.

"Having" street lamps does not mean that they have bulbs in them or that they are turned on. And actually, there are foreigners in North Korea, some diplomats, lecturers, visitors, businessmen etc. Although of course heavily monitored, it is not like as if NK was completely sealed off.

Plus, of course, we have a steady stream of defectors, who can report about NK, including, interestingly,Kim Yong Ils ex private chef, and even one of his sons himself.

Yes the North is quite good at dishing out Propaganda, that is why the people are so willing to endure the hardships of famine and not having electrical power outside of the main cities.
