What's Right with the World

Can you list 5 good things you see or know of in your family, community, nationally, or the world in general? We often find what we're looking for, so let's look for something good, positive, uplifting, inspiring, heroic, compassionate, etc. Will this be as satisfying as making proclamations of disaster, apocalypse, cataclysm, alien invasion, conspiracies, punishment of sin, etc? Maybe. Some people will really have to resist the temptation to go over to the dark side, and maybe a few won't be able to do it at all. For a while, let's live in the light.

I like this idea Beany! Too much bad stuff reported and not enough positive energy!

1. Nature its awesome. I find peace and balance there.

2 laughter, comedy like George Carlin and Mad Magazines. These people who make us laugh are heroic in a fashion to me.. The reason being is that good comedy makes you think and look at things through a different filter. Comedians look at life and turn it back to the audience and it's hard to be a good fool/court jester! It takes courage to do that.

3. Art, any art that moves from Salvador Dali to Rush! Brian May playing guitar... make the noise, make the noise!!!!!!

4, my family and friends.

5. Creating. Making something is so cool. From dinner to Art. It's a rush.

I think I would have listed different things at different times in my life. I wonder about what was right with the world to me then that I have forgotten about now.

Life circumstances change. Perhaps what I would have listed in the past are actually more important to me than what I would list today, but they're lost to time, memory and circumstance.

Here's mine:

Kids & grandkids

Music, especially Sorrowful Songs, Koln Concert Part I, Laurindo Almeida Duets with the Spanish Guitar, & live concerts

Falling asleep at night to the sound of the surf

Sunrise on a lake on a boat

Only a little over 200 cases of polio reported worldwide, we're on the verge of wiping it out entirely

Extras:

Those photos of deep space move me in an inexplicable way. Thank you, science, for making that possible.

People in my community are outraged that the police are ticketing the homeless for sleeping in their cars and are doing everything they can to have it stopped.

Petting my cat

Gee, maybe 5 isn't enough. Energy flows where attention goes!

War is decreasing as a way to settle international disputes as revealed by a study I read about. Global peace increasing.

More people today are aware of and finding help for mental health issues; the stigma attached to mental health is declining. The healing of the masses is beginning. Inner peace increasing.

Global literacy rates are increasing. Knowledge increasing.

The internet has allowed us as a species to have the most amount of information to be shared in our whole history. Hundreds of years ago books were expensive and it took a long time for ideas to spread. Collective knowledge increasing. Bridges increasing.

More and more people are not selfishly just thinking about themselves or their families only but about others. The brotherhood of men is increasing.

Sitting outside in the golden late evening sun, listening to my neighbor next door play acoustic classic rock songs on his guitar.

When my son tells me about how his stomach feels floppy and he doesn't know what to say when he sees a certain one of his female friends, so he just does funny things to make her laugh. He's 6.

Local growing concern for the environment and the volunteers who organize and participate in the clean up events.

The amount of good energy I feel lately. Physically (as in waking up earlier, ready to move and having that last all day. well most days...) and Spiritually (as in a constant abundance of love and gratitude).

Inspiration and creativity in it's many, sometimes surprising forms.

Whats an omniplatta?

Omoplatta is a shoulder lock in jujitsu. It's fairly easy to get out of that's why I like to use on cocky guys ;) only using my leggs.

Do I put that in the "compassionate" category?

  • 2 months later...

1 -Waking up next to my beautiful wife

2 - Watching our pet rabbit chase our cat.

3 - Finishing a paint job on a model and liking the result.

4 - Hearing the pride in my daughters voice when she tells me her latest triumph

5 - Finding out that my grand-nephew thinks of me as a role model.

No particular order, and I have more, but you said 5.

Why not tell us more? I love to be reminded of all the beautiful things in life, some so small & inconsequential that we often aren't even aware of them. Like for me, a friend & I visit the fish pond where we work and feed the fish. We never get tired of seeing all the little fishies darting around after the food, it always makes us happy. I keep a picture of my granddaughter on my desk, so that I always have that small pleasure of looking at her beautiful face whenever I want. Or the sound of a train whistle late at night. Seeing a shooting star. Ripe cherries. Cutting a flowers from my yard for a bouquet.

This thread deserves more attention :tu:

1. Those little moments when the most random of things makes you laugh hysterically and everyone looks at you like your crazy lol

2.That feeling you get when you finally see someone you missed for the longest time

3. Having the closest friends in the world

4. Having faith in someone when they don't even have faith in themselves, and then they prove you right

5. Those rare moment when you realize everything you were worrying about doesn't really matter at all

Okay, random happy thoughts it is.

1 - the smell of fresh ground coffee.

2 - stepping out of the house and coming face to face with a doe and her fawns.

3 - the sound that my brook makes after a rainstorm as it flows over the rocks.

4 - listening to the sounds of cool jazz while working on my latest project.

5 - catching up on the latest news from my friends.

6 - watching the mist rise off the mountains nearby.

7 - finding a twenty dollar bill in my wallet.

8 - the aroma of my wife's potroast filling the house

9 - watching women walk by

10 - seeing a rainbow

11 - thunder storms

12 - snowy days when the snow falls straight, and all sounds seem to disappear.

13 - foggy days

14 - becoming totally absorbed in a good book

15 - my goofball cat 'allowing' me to pet him, as if he is doing me a favor :)

16 - lazy sundays

17 - waking up, late for work, and then realizing it's my day off.

And that's all I can think of at the moment. But there are more.

a Double scoop candy cane chocolate mint ice cream cone

watching my nasturtiums grow

having a wild bird ( an Oregon junco) land on my hand ( only for a moment)

a fudge brownie

and finally Egg Nog in july, still half frozen so it needs to be eaten with a spoon (speaking of which I need to pull some out of the freezer)
