In something that is news to us, apparently God hates the NBA. This seems pretty far-fetched, because in spite of a recent spate of injuries, some sort of Almighty Power has bestowed us with a fantastically entertaining postseason thus far, and a wonderfully sunny spring day for me to sit under while I write about the NBA all day.

According to a press release from the Westboro Baptist Church, though, God does hate the NBA. And this edict is so significant that the church has announced plans to picket at both Wednesday’s Game 5 between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Houston Rockets, and Thursday’s Game 6 between the Chicago Bulls and Brooklyn Nets. Apparently the Big Man Upstairs, according to the Westboro Baptist Church, is really ticked off at Oklahoma City star Kevin Durant for wagging his fist at the sky before telling reporters that if a free agent veteran center was “happy, that’s cool with me.”

--------

Apparently there is no limit to their stupidity.

If one wants publicity, that doesn't sound so stupid.

havokwing, see if you can find anything on youtube entitled 'when louis met america's most hated family'

a programme made by louis theroux, a BBC journalist, that introduced us here in the UK to those scariest of modern, deluded, zealotous bigots, you'd probably find it very interesting.....

I've been wondering for some time now what it might be that has caused there to be such a huge swing in public opinion about gays, especially in the US but also pretty much everywhere. I think of course the reasons are complex, and mainly because of gays themselves and their conduct, but I have to think that these demonstrators instructing us that God hates gays has got to be part of it. People who otherwise have no strong opinion one way or the other really resent that sort of thing.

I think when the words "God hates (insert your bigotry here)" are said it only serves to prove the very obvious fact that it is people with a "God complex" and hefty doses of delusions of grandeur that hate - not God.

If they come here to OKC and mess with our beloved Thunder, they might wish they went somewhere else!...

Maybe when our cops have to escort them out - for their safety of course- they can give them a free "wood shampoo"...

It's only a matter of time before the WBC disbands, probably after the Phelps parents pass away. The younger family members are now starting to distance themselves from the church (if you can call it that). They protest for attention and for publicity because they hope they'll have grounds for a lawsuit as the elder Phelps is a lawyer. He's basically taught his kids and other church members how to incite violence and anger so their "rights" will be violated and they can sue for damages then live off the proceeds.

Why oh why to they give them any press time. I couldn't care less what they do at a game. At least they are not harassing people at the gave yard.

The WBC has done more to unite the "pro gay" world than any event or group.

The NBA certainly needs publicity as their attendance has been in decline.

Who knows if the player coming out is just a way to try and do that and if they hired WB to help in tha effort?

Just speculation but as you noted this is not going to hurt anybody's bottom line since publicity is what they all want...
