Still Waters Posted May 16, 2013 #1 Share Posted May 16, 2013 A leading South African university says it will make Zulu language classes compulsory for all first-year students from next year. The decision by the University of KwaZulu-Natal is aimed at promoting "nation-building and bringing diverse languages together", an official said. Zulu is among the most widely spoken of South Africa's 11 official languages. http://www.bbc.co.uk...africa-22552505

DKO Posted May 19, 2013 #3 Share Posted May 19, 2013 Makes sense. I would think it would be easier to teach Zulu at a younger age though. But I guess teaching English, Afrikaans and Zulu is a bit much for kids to take in. Every South African I know can speak a fair bit of Zulu, enough to get by if needed.
