Total Republican Fail As Americans Don't care

40 posts in this topic

Republicans, to cite a more recent and relevant example, know that with their manufactured Benghazi scandal, or their spun IRS scandal (it was not only conservative groups that were targeted by the IRS) and resultant voter outrage (all that loss of trust an consent we keep hearing about), they have President Barack Obama by the short and curlies. What they seem unaware of is that this outrage is mostly in their own minds. Worse yet, almost half of Americans aren’t even following either of the situations closely.

There seems to be a lot of hysteria on UM

While Obama does things I don't like I have to agree with the article on the fact that republicans are completely out of touch.

This also is another problem I have with them. Seems the emails had been tampered with to get a investigation into the Benghazi consulate attack.

While unable to comprehend that we do not share their outrage over their manufactured scandals, Republicans prove completely incapable of recognizing our outrage over actual crises, like, say, providing Americans with adequate medical care, fair and equal pay, our children with food and a decent education, and our workers with jobs.

They would rather repeal Obamacare than create a job. After all, if they created a single job (so far they have not), they would not be able to blame Obama for not creating any jobs. We’ll leave aside for a moment a wish for bridges that don’t fall down with our cars and our families on them.

The Scathing Speech That Just Got a Standing Ovation During the IRS Hearing

The gallery at the House Weighs and Means Committee Friday had to be called to order after it burst into applause and some gave a standing ovation following an impassioned diatribe against the IRS by Pennsylvania Republican Rep. Mike Kelly.

Kelly took his time during the hearing on the IRS’s targeting of conservatives to lambaste outgoing head Steven Miller, reminding Miller that while the IRS would like to chalk the organization’s recent actions up to a mistake, regular Americans do not get that luxury when dealing with the IRS.

“If you think it’s uncomfortable sitting over there you ought to be a private individual when the IRS is across from you asking you questions,” Kelly began, and that set the tone for the subsequent four minutes.

Some of the highlights:

• “I have a grandson who’s afraid to get out of bed at night because he thinks there’s someone under the bed that’s going to grab him. And I think most Americans feel that way about the IRS.”

• “This kind of reconfirms that, you know what, they [the IRS] can do almost anything they want to anybody they want, anytime they want. This is very chilling for the American people.”

• “This is a Pandora’s Box that has been opened and I don’t think we can get the lid back on it.”

• “I don’t believe the White House just found out about this in a news report.”

• “I got to tell you, where you’re sitting, you should be outraged — and you’re not. The American people should be outraged, and they are.”

• “This reconfirms everything the American public believes! This is a huge blow to the faith and trust the American people have in their government!”

• “Is there any limit to the scope of where you folks can go?”

• “It’s sure as hell intimidating. And I don’t’ know that I got any answers from you today.”

• “I am more concerned today than I was before. The fact that you all can do just about anything you want to anybody. You know, you can put anybody out of business that you want anytime you want.”

“And when the IRS comes in, you’re not allowed to be shoddy, you’re not allowed to be run horribly, you’re not allowed to make mistakes, you’re not allowed to do one damn thing that doesn’t come in compliance. If you do, you’re held responsible right then.”

• “This is absolutely an overreach and this is an outrage for all America!”

I can't believe people believe this is all Republican "hype"! If you make a mistake on your taxes you are held accountable.

Have any of you ever been through an audit??

My in laws went through an audit about two years ago (both are self employed, so that's why) and it was awful and stressful for them. Finally, the IRS admitted they made a mistake in auditing them and they didn't owe them any money....Did they apologize or anything? No they didn't! How come they can do c**** like that and NOT be held accountable?!

Democrats are so stupid I cant beleive it, everything that is wrong with this country can be attributed directly to ill informed closed minded democrats that wouldnt know the truth if it came up and slapped them in the face. I would hope that you would get everything that you deserve, but that would affect me also, and I am not stupid and I can see what is going on. My question is, I guess are you guys really this stupid or are you just socialists working towards an agenda?

If Americans do not care then that explains the potential for your government to bald face lie to you while you lose more and more freedom. It is one thing to support your administration, it is another to do it blindly with unquestioning adoration.

We were due for a major scandal. Watergate will turn out to be nothing. Benghazi, AP, IRS sounds like three strikes to me. And none of them needs to pan out. As the perception of wrong doing is all that is needed. Although, Obama is too smooth for any of it to stick, I just like watching the Socialists squeal. I see NJ is loading up on a barrage of support for The ONE.

So basically all this is just propaganda? The millions of dollars of taxpayer's money to pay for these investigations and Fast and Furious just to make your political opponents squeal? No wonder the average American isn't paying attention. You can only cry wolf so many times before even the densest of people learn.

Unless the government threatens to ban soda or something that immediately threatens the daily lives/comfort of the individual, then people don't care. They just don't. The government can lie/cheat/steal all it wants in indirect/not immediately provable ways there will be no major consequences. A few scapegoats maybe, but that's it.

Please not that NJ completely supports IRS intimidation of US citizens. If this same coercion is used to punish left wing groups he will completely support it. LMAO. NJ, I rarely reply to your posts any longer because you are an absolute tool, you represent the antithesis of what a free people are but this one is so off the wall that I wanted to recognize your departure from reality. 78k volunteered to go on a one way trip to Mars but you have already left.

Does it really matter if the Public thinks it is important or not? Bascally Obama said that if Rush Limbauh is talking about it, then he needs to focus his entire Administration on counting it. If it is on TV or Radio, then the Dem spin factory will be reacting.

I think people care as much today as they did about things like the Iran Contra scandel and the John Edwards scandel. Basically very little. Unless a scandel is taking money directly out of my hand.... it is entertainment value only, and thus is forgotten quickly.

Yeah hate to say this, but I think this part of the quote is at least true. Most people I talk to in real life are worried more about reality stars, celebrities and recent famous convicted criminals, they don't have a clue as to what's going on in politics right now; nor do they care.

BTW, I didn't know Angelina Jolie had a double mastectomy. Hmmm...would've never thunk it!

Half the people don't even bother to vote. The half that counts, however, are very concerned and ninjagal is just trying to pretend they aren't. He is a very simple guy, deep down and like a small child, pulls the cover over his head to make the monsters go away. :passifier:

Right, right, right...well I live in the bible belt and all I hear about, if it's not about religious views and ideas, are the three things I mentioned before. But on occasion, you do come across a few who like to talk politics, other than that...I mostly get to listen about Angelina Jolie's mastectomy or Jodi Arias conviction of first-degree murder. Oh the joy!

Of course, that's one of the reasons I come here to UM, is to catch up on all the political (drama) debates. party0052.gif Anyway, carry on.....

Edit: Dagum spelling!

That was too harsh Nucky, but I can't disagree with you for this one expiring moment....

Splitting the country's problems up politically - and then deciding what we think - is a grand delusion. Don't let it pull you in.

When we look at problems and facts under a partisan lens, I think we miss the true nature of our problems and the true assessment of the facts. The political parties are blind almost by definition. Everything they do is political out of self-interested necessity. Everything they think is skewed to one side of a position or the other to feign that there's some kind of real difference between their group and the other one. I think people are smart enough now in the 21st century to know that this is BS. I think you are too.

I suspect the IRS has always targeted/profiled people. We were told they were the new kinder, gentler IRS. Are we surprised to see that they're not? The real "coverup" is that our government profiles us all the time. Every good police officer on the road profiles people if he wants to make his quota. Let's own up to the hard truths and stop living in naivety and political correctness, folks. Government isn't here to protect us. It's here to control us.

wrong. There are 300 million people in the US. Targeting the the only way to ferret out the tax cheats.

Ninja: If it is all illusion and not a big deal, why did the Acting Director quit?

President Barack Obama announced on Wednesday that Steven Miller, the acting director of the Internal Revenue Service, had resigned amid criticism over the tax agency's handling of conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/05/15/obama-irs-scandal_n_3281673.html

And why did President Obama say...

In a press conference on Monday, Obama called the reports "outrageous" and intolerable, while saying he would reserve harsher judgment for when a fuller report on the IRS's actions is formally released.

"This is pretty straightforward," said Obama.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/05/13/obama-irs-scandal_n_3266577.html

Government officals don't quit their Director positions unless there is some meat to the allogations.

BTW, I didn't know Angelina Jolie had a double mastectomy. Hmmm...would've never thunk it!

From what I read, doing so takes her from a 95% chance of breast cancer to a 5% chance. (Due to genetic factors)

I hear this constant drone that both sides do it yet I see zero proof? Nixon mentioned, on one tape, that "We should sick the IRS on the b*******." but he never did it. Show me where the republicans did what you accuse them of doing and then make your case. I suspect, I believe is utter BS. Prove your theory or stop making the accusations. Or become ninjadude.
