Still Waters Posted July 10, 2013 #1 Share Posted July 10, 2013 Dolphins emit sounds in their environment and listen to the echoes that return — a process that helps them identify the shapes and locations of objects. Doctors use a similar technique to image a developing human baby. Both involve ultrasound — high-pitched pulses of sound above the range of human hearing. Using echolocation, dolphins might be able to detect a pregnant woman's developing fetus, some experts say. http://www.livescien...nant-women.html
Taun Posted July 10, 2013 #2 Share Posted July 10, 2013 Would the dolphins "emitter" be putting out enough power to 'see' through the outer skin and into the womb?...
rashore Posted July 10, 2013 #3 Share Posted July 10, 2013 Gosh, I hope dolphins can't. I can totally see us humans deciding to turn a buck or few out of the capability, and the dolphins would probably get the short end of the stick.
Timmeh Posted July 11, 2013 #4 Share Posted July 11, 2013 Would the dolphins "emitter" be putting out enough power to 'see' through the outer skin and into the womb?... The question is would they actually know it's a baby?
GirlfromOz Posted July 11, 2013 #5 Share Posted July 11, 2013 (edited) The reality of it all is that animals sense & smell things that we humans overlook or don't sense or smell. We have a lesser sense that animals have in a greater sense. If dolphins smell something, that is something of an underwater sensing of a pregnant woman etc,it must be something of a chemical release in the water via the skin of a human etc.Dolphins must be familiar & swiftly recognize chemicals such as birth within their own pods that they have been familiarized with or identified with. The Births of or the smell of other creatures around them like humans etc must be a very strong thing for them that they intellectually understand.Wow! pallidin Posted July 11, 2013 #6 Share Posted July 11, 2013 (edited) Having read the article, it appears that this ability, though circumstantially evident, is still "speculative" Nonetheless... Boyfriend to girlfriend: Hey honey, let's go for a dip in the ocean with those cute dolphins. Boyfriend secretly observes the dolphin behaviors to determine if girlfriend is pregnant. little_dreamer Posted July 12, 2013 #7 Share Posted July 12, 2013 It's a bit pointless since we cannot communicate with dolphins.
