Atom smashing

I do hope that the day scientists discover dark-matter, or sumtyn powerful and currently unknown, and they decide to atom smash it at LHC that they have some big guns standing close by....we don't know what would happen, but if a portal happens who knows what's on the other side...(Sounds like the storyline to old dos game doom...scientists open portal to hell..)

Out....

Portal to a singularity that promptly begins to suck in our universe at the speed of light?

Ofcourse that is a possibility....

However we need to be ready for if we dnt get sucked away, and do something else instead...

No worries. The LHC, though using high energy, actually produces VERY small energy events.

In other words, for example, should a black hole be created it would be so small as to be an insignifcant threat, and would "disappear" within nanoseconds.

Physicists from all over the world have deemed LHC to be entirely safe. Hope they're right.

Well, there's no reason to deem the LHC unsafe, is there?

Of course not; it is just speculation. Thousands of experts work on it and none of them seems to have he slightest concern -- something it would be impossible to hide if there were real danger.

Yeah well, you kinda hit the nail on the head there, when you mention the fictional portal in the game Doom. Emphasis on the word "fictional". Portals don't exist.

When it comes to atom-smashing and world-destroying, it all has to do with the total energy.

The total energy stored in the LHC beam is equivalent to 77.4 kg of TNT.

So if a test nuclear explosion (equivalent to millions of tonnes of TNT) doesn't open a portal to a hell dimension, I don't see how colliding a couple of protons will.
