Tyrannosaurus Rex almost had a different name

It is the most ferocious and best known of all dinosaurs, but the Tyrannosaurus rex nearly went without its famous name.

When the first fossilised remains of the creature were found, the 29ft carnivore was initially given a moniker that was rather more of a mouthful: Dynamosaurus imperiosus.
