Ancient sea predator has world’s oldest face

13 posts in this topic

Scientists believe that a new fossil discovery from China is the world's oldest known example of the bone structure we now recognize as a face.

The remarkably well-preserved fish (an example of the species Entelognathus primordialis) was discovered in Southeast China in a layer of sediment dating back to the Silurian period - making the specimen roughly 419 million years old.

No wonder it's a missing link. Its relatives wanted to stay as far away as possible from those masticators.

Wouldn't be interesting through some lets say magical gate to travel back in time to that period, seeing a specific fish that somehow lead genetically to your own origins. Basically that is your grand father. How would you feel looking at that creature, swimming around careless and indifferent, knowing he is you nut 4000 billion years less.
