Ancient woodland to be destroyed

2 posts in this topic

Hundreds of acres of ancient woodland are to be destroyed after becoming infected with an invasive tree disease that is spreading around the country.

Nearly 500 acres of the woodland, which is home to rare wildlife including dormice, adders and nightjars, are now to be cut down and destroyed in an attempt to control the outbreak.

Experts, however, fear further areas will need to felled over the coming months as the disease continues to spread.

Also it seems Phytopthera ramorum changes larches into beech trees if the photo is to be believed! Fortunately, I don't have any larches and the few ash trees I have seem to have escaped the 'die-back'. (Touch wood!)
