do people think this could be down to the cost of weddings, most people in my circle of family and friends of the older generation got married in a registry office, a small affair. not the big church white wedding, those who've gone for the big white wedding option have paid anywhere from £6,000 to £10,000+

Have we as a society brought about this decline in marriage because we yet again have stigmatised getting married in a registry office. compared to the church wedding. most of my mates are not married and its down to cost, and when a registry office option is mentioned they pull a face. in a sense of if we cannot do it 'properly' were not doing it at all. its almost as if we've cheapened the registry office option to the level of the Las Vegas drive through.

I think a huge wedding cheapens a marriage. They take it to the level of a competition...who can have the biggest and best. What's wrong with choosing a scenic spot outdoors and having a few special people present?
