Still Waters Posted October 19, 2013 #1 Share Posted October 19, 2013 Rumours have circulated for decades about a colony of "Big cats" roaming Sydney's western fringes and beyond. But today, a report commissioned by the State Government has concluded that the many hundreds who have seen the panther are wrong. http://www.smh.com.a...1018-2vs6v.html
freetoroam Posted October 19, 2013 #2 Share Posted October 19, 2013 (edited) "The sightings are mostly of black animals but the occasional reports of brown or tan cats suggest either more than one species is present or people are mistaking other animals for cats. Large dogs, large feral cats or swamp wallabies have been suggested as candidates by some." He added: "There is no conclusive evidence that large cats exist in the wild in NSW." What he says is pretty obvious, but like in England, there are cats roaming about which should not be there, most were pets which got to big for the sofa. Each year many pets are abandoned, so someone doing the same to their "illegally" owned one would not be strange. The difference is, big cats are rare to keep as a pet and not native to this country, so seeing one would be a lot stranger and a LOT rarer than seeing a tabby or a dog.
