Apollo 13 commander: bring back Moon missions

Jim Lovell, who brought the stricken spacecraft safely to Earth as the world watched, warned that the spirit of the Sixties and Seventies had been lost because of the lack of manned missions to the Moon and Mars.

In the 41 years since the Apollo programme ended, mankind has yet to return to the Moon, and with no fixed goal identified as the next step in manned space flight, any hopes of a mission to Mars appear as distant as the red planet itself, he said.
