All soul's day

All Souls day

Today, for Catholics we celebrate All Souls day. A day of remembrance and prayers for the deceased, both for those we love and knew in life, as well as for all those who wait on the Lord as they continue to grow and to be healed. The metaphor of fire is used as the tool of purification; fire is also used as a symbol of God’s love, as well as for the reality of the Holy Spirit. Love is about relationship. Love, any love that is real, purifies us all of our inner conflicts, for to love is to let go of all that impedes its full expression. If that process stops then growth will stop, or even flow backwards towards indifference. So yes love involves some form of dying to self. Good parents are perhaps the best people to speak on the purifying reality of love and its cost, for love is stronger than death and that reality is lived out everyday by those who care deeply for others. . In love’s deep healing process all is brought to light, so self knowledge is the fire that both heals as well as wounds, ever deeper in and higher up is the wave we are called to ride, no matter what our state in life is. All must be bought before the fire of God’s infinite love to be made into pure gold, all else that which is built on straw burns away.

Truly... the letting go part seems to be the problem of our times.
