Illinois Tornadoes

Bad tornadoes hit Illinois and parts of the midwest this afternoon. Severe weather is predicted for here (Pennsylvania) in the late overnight and early morning hours. I think it will just be thunderstorms and wind.

Hope all UMers in the area stay safe. May need to click a couple times for link to work, but it will.

The Bears and Ravens football game was delayed because of the storm. Fans were told to leave their seats and go to the nearest covered concourse.

Thanks Taun. We're supposed to get 40-60 mph winds between 1 and 3 in the morning. Some heavy rainfall but no mention of tornadoes for here. Should be out of the area with a cold front in by 6 AM. It was 62 outside this afternoon. Ohio is getting the brunt of the storms now.

Glad everyone is safe. Property loss is hard but it can be rebuilt. The important thing is only 2 deaths have been reported so far in Illinois, but authorities are still going through the rubble.

Spoke to soon. The death toll is now at 5. Haven't seen much about Ohio yet.

This report is a little old but it shows how these storms will come into the east coast overnight. Take care everyone.

We had some rain overnight and wind in my part of Pennsylvania, but the cold front never came in. It was 61 here this afternoon. It's supposed to get cold tonight and be in the low 40's to high 30's for the next 2 days.

An update on this...

The scale of Sunday's deadly storms became clearer today: Six people dead in Illinois, hundreds of homes flattened and splintered, more than 80 tornadoes reported through the Midwest, 358 reports of damaging winds, 40 reports of large hail.

Since 1986, there have been 194 tornado warnings issued in the month of November in Illinois: More than half of them, 101, were issued Sunday, according to the Chicago Weather Center.

Gov. Quinn has declared 7 counties disaster areas...

There was a lot of storm damage and power outages elsewhere along the storms path, but it looks like IL got hit hardest.

I was driving through the worst of this the other day. Lots of wind and rain, but no tornadoes. We got off easy in central Ohio. South of us, people were not so lucky.
