They are correct the British dream is over.

We have dismantled the empire, got rid of most of our armed forces, closed down our heavy industry and sold out to the EU. Whats really sad is it wasnt forced upon us by the environment but polticians who are living in a fantasy world about human rights, liberal ideals and their self styled hypocrisy.

Genghis Khan, Julius Caesar, Nero, Napoleon, Hitler, there will be more but the fools in our Parliament are setting us up for a good conquering when the next one arises.

You are not alone in this... America is well on it's way - and for the very same reasons.

its easy for others to run our good name down, lets not do it ourself. whenever criticised by a foreign power, always ask the question. would you rather the UK was like those who are criticising us, in this case - China. - for me the answer is definitely not. a communist country and all that goes along with that, some of the worst human rights in the world. a country of over a billion people. and lets face it you think of Chinese manufacturing you think cheap and plastic.

on the other hand, the UK liberal democracy for centuries, and all that goes with that system of government - a country of 62 million souls, a manufacturing base a lot smaller than in the heyday. but still today we can hold our heads up high and say, at least what we do produce is specialised and of a high quality. we might only have 0.9% of the worlds population yet 2% of world trade that level is sustainable and acceptable.

if what was written in the article was true why would the Chinese even bother talking to us. trade is a two way street whats in for the Chinese?

How many Chinese come to this fallen country and try and reside illegally for a better life?

I bet a lot more than the other way round. If being a great country means sweat shops, cheap knock off's and practically slave labour then they can keep their greatness.

Yea I saw that. What a bit of jingoist garbage the Chinese press sometimes puts out. I kinda hope that editor gets the demotion he deserves for being both stupid and rude to a visiting dignitary.

Britain has a great future; it just won't be dominant. No one will be.

A fallen power? What a bunch of crap. All that China is, the UK has been. Times have changed, and no country can remain a massive global power for sustained periods of time. The UK, while not anymore the power it was at the peak of its Empire, has still managed to remain one of the world's biggest economies, and a country which can project its culture around the planet. Everybody in Europe wants to live in the UK.

Britain was, is and will remain a great country which gave the world everything.

Dissagree with this, if you speak to the majority of British Public, I say 99% will say yes

True or not it is not of China's business. They are not yet a world power one hopes if they have such attitudes they don't become one. I remember the remark back awhile about "teaching Vietnam a lesson" as to had the power. Such things are just so stupid and so frightening and only make people uneasy if not hostile, in spite of good wishes and long alliances.

Almost everybody criticises her/his own country and thinks the grass is greener on the other side (when, in reality, the UK remains one of the best places to live in).

Britain has a great future; it just won't be dominant. No one will be.

Thats where the mistake lies, the assumption that no other nation will try to be or will succeed in becoming dominant.

Its like the world is full of naive people who believe there will never be another major war. What happens when a nuclear power or nuclear capable power gets a dictator who wants to carve out an empire? (USA, France, Germany, Russia, China, India, Israel, Iran, North Korea). As time passes such leaders will appear.

If the USA gets the next one they'll steam roller Britain, we wont stand a chance. We wouldnt even beat Germany if they got one tomorrow because the EU has grown their industry and left us with economic problems. China has got so much manpower they could walk across the planet without being properly equipped. We wouldnt be able to defend against such numbers.

The thing to remember is that when a power begins to annex territory and act like that, other countries forget their differences and unite against them. With the world as it is now I just don't think a hegemonic power is in the cards.

The only way it might happen is if Europe and Russia and the Americas (and Japan maybe and a few others) were to form a confederacy of some sort, but this would be great because probably the rest of the world would come in too.

What a sentence!

You can enter any countrys name into that sentence and will get an endless number of confirmations. Even for Disneyland.

So what.

Yes & lets face it millions are queuing up at the door waiting to come in.

Don't think they're queuing up in the same numbers on the chinese border. (or any others come to think of it).

China only listens to China. They don't respect international laws or patents.

I see they have turned their attention to knocking off the German car industry, I wonder how long till they describe the Germans in the same way?

Fair play to the Germans for challenging them, not that it did them any good.
