Those were garbage plans

So remember when folks started losing their plans by the hundreds of thousands a few weeks back? The Administration immediately started spinning it by saying the plans people were losing were "high deductible garbage plans" and "not worth the paper they were written on". They also played the elitist card by saying that folks were just too dumb to know that their plans were garbage and that the Obamacare plans that will be offered will be far superior (you know, once we get the website working). Just you wait and see, people are going to love it!

Well, apparently not:

For some, Obamacare deductibles deliver sticker shock

The Affordable Care Act is turning out to be less than affordable for some consumers.

That’s because many of the plans carry huge deductibles, creating potential financial problems for middle-class consumers. Some “bronze”-level plans, the lowest level of coverage, carry deductibles as high as $12,700 per year for a family of four.

The deductible is the amount a family or insured person must pay out of pocket before the health care plan kicks in. For a household with the country’s median annual income — about $52,000 — such a hefty deductible may create an unhealthy incentive: skipping treatment and medication in order to keep out-of-pocket spending low.

The average individual deductible for a bronze plan is a whopping $5,081 per year, according to research provided to CBS MoneyWatch from HealthPocket, a technology company that ranks health care plans.

What’s worse, that represents an increase of 40 percent from the average deductible for an individually purchased plan before the federal health care overhaul, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Obamacare just keeps getting better and better, doesn't it?

These articles don't have enough information in them to decide whether their plans were better or worse before the ACA. They just sound like cherry picking to me.

It is absurd. They are forcing ,iddle class people to pay $400+ a month for insurance that doesn't even kick in until they've spent $12K+. In order for Obamacare to work they soak a certain sector of the population to cover another sector, basically wealth redistribution. When the business mandate starts in 2015 there will be tens of millions flushed into the toilet of Obamacare and real anger will ensue.

Right now teh penaltyfor not having insurance is absurdly low but that is scheduled to ramp up as well, after the next election of course and the young and healthy will find themselves paying $5K a year as a health tax to cover that same sector I mentioned above. That will be fun to watch, especially since the economy is in the dumper and many of those young and healthy are unemployed or working low wage jobs.

I encourage all employees to fill or re-fill their W-4 forms to claim as many depndents as possible. Take a bigger paycheck, save the money to pay your taxes quarterly and don't write them a check for the fine. Otherwise, they'll steal the fine from your tax returns. No harm will come as their are no legal measures or abilities to affect your credit if you don't pay. Believe me, one or two years of fines and you'll snowball into never seeing that old trusty tax return again.

well is it really up to us to decide the better or worse. If the original plan worked for the individual and they were happy, i would argue they are the best judge of their own life.

Its weird years ago people said the Right wanted to tell people how to live. Now the Left wants to do the same. If only there were some people who left us to our own devices. "To dream the impossible dream"

You're right. It is cherry picking. But keep picking and next thing you know you're buried alive in cherries.

People will begin to renounce their citizanship over it.
