48 posts in this topic

During yesterdays annual pre-super bowl reading of the declaration of independence did anyone else note that every reason for the the 1776 revolt against the crown could now be applied to the current regime of the USA?

Does "current regime of the USA" refer to the symbolic Obama administration, in "office" since 2008? Or does it refer to the true locus of power, established in, and unchanged since, 1913?

Either way, yes...the parallels are quite clear.

Well, high taxes is the price for being a superpower, but the bone of contention with "Farmer George" was not about taxes, it was about being taxed without having a voice about it, which is certainly not the current situation. That most don't care a damn to exercise their right is not the governments fault.

Reading the Declaration of independence at a sporting event? That seems a little... wierd. It all seems rather reminiscent of the things totalitarian states are fond of doing.

Tho yes, it does all sound rather like the things that the Conspiracy industry, at any rate, believes him to be doing. And possibly previous administrations, although for some reason it seems to be mr. O in particular they're concerned about. Actually, maybe that's where all these conspiracy theories about how he's about to impose Martial Law and bring in the UN to shoot citizens on sight and all the rest of it come from; they've been looking thru the DoI and they've been picking all the things poor old George was accused of (very often unfairly).

He has abdicated Government here, by declaring us out of his Protection and waging War against us.

He has plundered our seas, ravaged our coasts, burnt our towns, and destroyed the lives of our people.

He is at this time transporting large Armies of foreign Mercenaries to compleat the works of death, desolation, and tyranny, already begun with circumstances of Cruelty & Perfidy scarcely paralleled in the most barbarous ages, and totally unworthy the Head of a civilized nation.

He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us, and has endeavoured to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers, the merciless Indian Savages whose known rule of warfare, is an undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes and conditions.

I was working on posting this myself. So I’ll just add a few comments. Yes, Fox has been doing this for a while now, just google to see previous ones on youtube and elsewhere.

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1ayqt4_declaration-of-independence-super-bowl-xlviii_sport

Over Sword is correct, especially when they got to “for light and transient causes”, I couldn’t help but think that this Administration is exactly what this text is talking about. Then you can’t help but face “it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government” and what that means. But insult was added to injury when the First Lady appeared. Has America lost all sense of reality? Or do we continue to look the other way? Are we going to be disposed to suffer the evils?

There was an equally irrepressible commercial that aired:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=443Vy3I0gJs

It had good intentions, but it missed the concept of what it means to be American. We are diverse and that is our strength but we should be united first. You can’t be united unless you speak the same language. And then of further insult, they could only say GOD in English. Heaven forbid that they insult some other nationality.

To be clear on my view, I'm not speaking directly of the Obama administration but of the house, senate, NSA, CIA, Large corporations sponsoring and controling our politicians...etc....the system is broken and I feel no longer represents we the people, so there is no need for democrats or republicans to feel that I'm attacking one side for the other. I feel there are not two sides, the two sides we get the choose between is and illusion of choice.

And I am saying that the people have it in their power to put an end to it... and that makes the fundamental difference.

Suppose the choices to that you get to vote for are not getting the job done (they're not) then what Mark?

Suppose the current people in power seem to do nothing but undermine what you have been raised to believe makes America what it is?

Then throw your own hat into the ring, the only thing you can achieve with a revolution in a democracy is a dictatorship. Big money will love you if you achieve that. Nothing more healthy for the exploitation of man than a healthy dictatorship.

Oh no, not the "well, if you don't like any of the existing parties, why don't you start your own?" argument? I'm sure you can't really be that naive, do you really believe what you're typing??

Oh sure just throw your hat in because the PTB will let your message get heard. You'll be on TV debating the other people running, and corporate sponsors will throw millions your way to fund your campaign. :tu:

The US is presently much closer to dictatorship than either democracy OR constitutional republic. And I don't mean Obama.

No, sad to say, but voting is no longer a viable way to bring about change. This particular beast must be starved out of existence and that will happen by way of financial collapse and prosecution of corrupt, criminal oligarchs.

The point is that people are unwilling to change, as long as the majority is unwilling to change you will have to bring about change by by violence... which ends up making the problem worse as those with most money can exercise most violence.

You either try to achieve change by preaching from a soap box or you just will make matters worse. I know, running around with a castrated assault rifle in the woods playing revolution is more exiting than trying to convince people to take matters in their own hands... but it is less likely to bring about change.

I am speaking directly of the Obama Administration and all the previous Socialist Administrations since 1913. But don’t misunderstand me either. The Republicans and the American people are accomplices after the fact. The NSA, CIA, and large corporations have nothing to do with this; they are merely symptoms of an ailing system. Once the proverbial head of the snake is cutoff, these things will be corrected. I agree that we are no longer being represented by this government and therefore are no longer a part of us. This illusion of choice is caused by Socialism. It first infected the Democrats and now it is wearing down the Republicans. The only way to correct this is to create a new (sixth) party system or do away with it entirely. And more active participation of the people in the political process.

So it was Clinton, Carter and whoever came before them that were responsible for America becoming a dictatorship, then? So were Bush Sr and Jr and Ron so weak that they were unable to do anything to stem this tide of socialism?

In my mind no political party is responsible. The corruption that has effectively undermined our democratic republic starts at a corporate level. The revolving door between big pharma and high ranking positions in the FDA a prime example.

Actually, it was something lingering over from European Monarchy. It was the same control mechanism that we fought a war to free ourselves from. Socialism was an offshoot of Monarchy. The reforms that Bismarck established did much to spread Socialism. He was anti Socialists yet his big government programs instilled the heart of Socialism. By 1913, Socialism had migrated to this country when Wilson was elected and the 16th Amendment became his pet project. From there FDR brought the New Deal, although it was only half successful. Then the Great Society under Johnson did nothing to prevent poverty but pushed the Socialism agenda even further. Then Carter refused to support the Shah and now today we find ourselves paying with blood and treasure that we should have never had to pay. Today, it is Obama and Obamacare tearing away the final shreds of the Constitution. I would say that Reagan was the only President since 1913 that hadn’t been tarnished by Socialism and the last Bush had the strength to only appease Socialism. The Republicans in both Houses have picked up the cause of Bush Jr. Socialism has taken a century to bring this nation to the brink. How much longer can it hang on? How much longer before the people wake up and stop letting the low information voter drive the bus?

When you postulate your theories in persona, do you get laughed at a lot without knowing why?
