UM-Bot Posted February 26, 2014 #1 Share Posted February 26, 2014 An unusual temple in Rajasthan, India is home to several thousand rats that roam freely around its halls. Conventionally a rat infestation is considered to be a huge problem, but for India's Karni Mata Temple the sight of thousands of furry rodents scurrying around its halls and rooms is not only be to expected, it is encouraged. Sundew Posted February 26, 2014 #10 Share Posted February 26, 2014 You probably not only have to fear slipping in rat feces, at night the place is probably crawling with cobras looking for some nice grain-fed rat. Worshipping rats as gods. I wonder how many people around India go hungry because of granaries spoiled by vermin, or how many get sick from rat bites and rat borne diseases? I'd say the "no history of plague" is a matter of pure luck; give it time.

pallidin Posted February 27, 2014 #17 Share Posted February 27, 2014 Incarnation of a diety? Yeah, right. The rat's left over food is considered sacred? Yuk. With this many rats and more to be born, I'm sure the likelyhood of a devistating disease seems likely to only grow higher.
