The UK is set to become the first country in the world to permit the procedure which is getting the go-ahead in the interests of preventing babies being born with debilitating conditions such as muscular dystrophy. You may want to take a deeper look into this and what it stands for. I'm assuming you are a healthy person. Now if you were a person with a disease that could have been prevented using this technique, what would you have wanted your parents to have chosen. It's easy to say no when you are healthy but put yourself in someone else's shoes. That being said, I don't believe they are looking at the full picture here. They are taking what has always been A+B=C & changing it to A+B+D= a hopefully perfected C. Unfortunately by adding this new variable it will mostly likely equate to E, which will most likely have it's own multitude of problems. I could be very wrong in my believing this, after all I'm no specialist in this field, but I predict complications from this further down the line. Tampering with nature on this level always has unseen consequences. You may exchange mitochondrial DNA, but what if that causes other abnormalities in the epigenetics? You relieve one disease, but trigger another? We do this through our vocations and through our progeny. In this latter case, we can potentially provide hope where there was little hope. The real challenge is not the aberration of this procedure, but assuring that the world we provide to these new borns is the best we can "deliver."
