9 posts in this topic

At least 28 people were killed by knife-wielding attackers in a “violent terrorist attack” at a train station in the southwestern

Chinese city of Kunming, and police shot dead five of the assailants, state media said on Sunday.

Another 113 people were wounded, the official Xinhua news agency said, revising down an earlier higher figure.

It said the attack had taken place late on Saturday evening.

Yeah, for sure, as was said, this is sad.

I understand that the Chinese police have a few in custody.

Hopefully the police can find-out the "why"

Members of a separatist group from Xinjiang, in northwest China, are believed to have carried out the assault, authorities said.

The report referred to them as "terrorists."

Frequent outbreaks of violence have beset Xinjiang, a resource-rich area where the arrival of waves of Han Chinese people

over the decades has fueled tensions with the Uyghurs, a Turkic-speaking, predominantly Muslim ethnic group.

Here is some more information about the Uyghurs ;

Thanks for the info. Must be some serious tensions indeed to resort to this type of violence.

So this is slaughter was fueled by religion, even though nobody really knows what they actually want?

So this is slaughter was fueled by religion, even though nobody really knows what they actually want?

"The desired outcome by groups that use violence is, broadly speaking, a separate Uyghur state, called either Uyghuristan or Eastern Turkistan, which lays claim to a large part of China. While some Uyghurs want a separate state, others want to maintain cultural distinction within an autonomous relationship with China, and others are integrating into the Chinese system. There is no single Uyghur agenda."
