I have a feeling that many Muslims probably never read that part in the Quran, let alone other parts.

Well, that is not what the text says; nor is that what these passages are about. I could go into a detailed explanation of what they ACTUALLY mean, but I see little reason to do so at this point in time, as he has already reached his ridiculous, though somewhat amusing conclusion. I suppose this is meant to be sarcastic or insulting towards Muslims?

If anyone wants a real explanation of what these passages mean from someone who actually respects Islam, feel free to let me know and I will reply.

(two links are 404 not found)

Though worded differently I find all the verse's very much in line with things I read in the Bible concerning 'these days', heaven guarded from trespassers, latter day events and the hearing or not (understanding/believing) of scriptures. I could, with minimal effort, find and link to Bible verses which convey the same messages.

The only wording unfamiliar to me is "nearest heaven" in Surat Aş - Şāffāt 37:6 (?) <<<edit: book title is causing havoc with the board software.

Quran 72:8-9

8)And we have sought [to reach] the heaven but found it filled with powerful guards and burning flames.

9)And we used to sit therein in positions for hearing, but whoever listens now will find a burning flame lying in wait for him.

Quran 37:6-10

6)Indeed, We have adorned the nearest heaven with an adornment of stars

7)And as protection against every rebellious devil

8)[so] they may not listen to the exalted assembly [of angels] and are pelted from every side,

9)Repelled; and for them is a constant punishment,

10)Except one who snatches [some words] by theft, but they are pursued by a burning flame, piercing [in brightness].

Quran 67:5

5)And We have certainly beautified the nearest heaven with stars and have made [from] them what is thrown at the devils and have prepared for them the punishment of the Blaze.

Volume 4, Book 54, Number 432:

Narrated 'Aisha:

I heard Allah's Apostle saying, "The angels descend, the clouds and mention this or that matter decreed in the Heaven. The devils listen stealthily to such a matter, come down to inspire the soothsayers with it, and the latter would add to it one-hundred lies of their own."

http://www.islam4theworld.net/hadith/bukhari/51to55.htm

Volume 9, Book 93, Number 650:

Narrated 'Aisha:

Some people asked the Prophet regarding the soothsayers. He said, "They are nothing." They said, "O Allah's Apostle! Some of their talks come true." The Prophet said, "That word which happens to be true is what a Jinn snatches away by stealth (from the Heaven) and pours it in the ears of his friend (the foreteller) with a sound like the cackling of a hen. The soothsayers then mix with that word, one hundred lies."

Why, hundreds of years later, is a supposed enlightened society still beholden to the beliefs and superstitions of peoples who did not have the scientific knowledge to fully grasp the world around them?

Why, hundreds of years later, is a supposed enlightened society still beholden to the beliefs and superstitions of peoples who did not have the scientific knowledge to fully grasp the world around them?

Because being perpetually practicing the ancient traditions of sand peoples is preferable to exploring the Universe and evolving.

Because people push myth as true in perpetual fear, ignorrance, and wanting to believe.

Get them when their young, or while their minds are broken to begin with or later by drugs.

Erm...I did 7 times each in different translations.

Why don't you explain it then?

A 'shooting star', is not a 'star'. Neither is the former made by the latter.

Enlighten the board on what the verses mean to you then.

Or is it too much of a stretch to put into words?

Because being perpetually practicing the ancient traditions of sand peoples is preferable to exploring the Universe and evolving.

That assumes it's always an either/or situation; plenty of people who practiced ancient traditions of sand peoples also explored the universe and are responsible for our 'evolution'.

The Quran, Bible, Torah, Vedas, Egyptian book of the dead, the Bardo, etc... are not science books. If they were. they are woefully out of date. I understand D of S's point, it is really sad state of affairs when people (you know who you are) try to make them out to be science books. A book about religion is not going to help you build a quantum computer no matter how many times you read it or ideas you put in it.

That's a science video, not a Muslim video, though it's created to address an alleged Muslim issue (that makes it anti-Muslim apologetics, FYI).

Why pretend that straight up mind enslavement is spiritual?

You have more spirituality in your pinky finger than what people have been duped into believing out of punishment verses reward tactics.

That video was made by a Muslim and sent to me by a Muslim to explain the verses...FYI

See how silly it is?

When you see a Shooting Star think of a Jinn that is made by a smokeless flame being chased away.Think of Jinn that plan multiple attacks during times of peak Meteor Showers. You would also think Allah (Pbuh) would beam thoughts directtly to his Angels than have Jinn eavesdrop on his meetings. You would think Allah (Pbuh) would know ahead of time that Shaytan would not bow to his Sticky Clay creation.
