End of the World cinema

8 posts in this topic

With all the awesome contributions of abandoned places recently, I thought this would be a good one to add.

It has been over a decade since the outdoor cinema was built in the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt, at the bottom of a desert mountain range.

Now the 150 wooden seats are weathered and worn by the apocalyptic surroundings, and remain empty.

The screen's foundations stand broken and the building housing the generator and projector has been left crumbling.

I would have so loved to have seen Lawrence of Arabia in that theatre.

Edit: ...just me and my camel.

And before anyone starts, yes, I know that my camel is a bactrian (Asian) and not a dromedary (Arabian). I'm not a racist.

Kind of creepy in a way as well as being built at a weird location. Sad too that he went to all that trouble and nothing became of it. I wonder what he'd planned to show in his cinema, whatever it was he wouldn't have needed to worry about the volume too much.

I agree, terribly sad nothing even heppened. It would be nice to see an entrepreneur get it up and running again, but I can't see that happening.
