An Ohio death-row inmate can’t donate his organs to a family member because he wouldn't have enough time to recover from the operation before his execution, a state prison official said Friday.

Didnt something similar happen where someone on death row nearly died, so they nursed him back to health then killed him?

In 1995 death Row inmate George Del Vecchio said that was too sick to be executed.

The 47-year-old Chicagoan, scheduled to die Nov. 22 at Stateville Correctional Center near Joliet, has asked the Illinois Supreme Court to delay his lethal injection on grounds that he isn't "fit" to be executed, as state law requires. Del Vecchio is in a Downstate prison hospital being treated for an Oct. 26 heart attack.

Bit silly? What's the point of death penalties anyhow if they must be done like this? Not certainly to prevent further deaths... but I understand if the goal is to sow discord and provide a little extra dent to population. Though it's much more likely just idiotic byrocracy which makes it worse, because that's just plain idiotic and impotent, worse than misguidedness.

I think this guy should have the right to donate his organs and go to his reward in less than perfect health.. if that is his wish, and it can be done that way. Waive some dum law .. win / win

China used to harvest organs from executed prisoners for decades by the way. But they stopped doing this.
