Husband disappeared, then suddenly reappeared

Recommended Posts

I've been trying to research this since it happened about a month ago. I finally decided to ask about it even though I'm terrified of the answer, terrified it'll happen again, and terrified people will think we are crazy.

My husband is a disabled Iraq veteran. He suffers from PTSD and often stays up really late at night because he's paranoid. It's not uncommon for him to come to bed at 3-6 AM and sleep during the day.

It was a Thursday night and we had gotten into an argument earlier in the day. He wanted to go somewhere with a friend and I didn't want him to go and he was upset with me. I went to bed (as usual) around 11 PM and went right to sleep. We live in a small house and I keep the bedroom door open, so I can generally see the light from the TV in the living room on the walls of the bedroom.

I woke up at 3:18 AM and it was very dark in the house. Our bed is pushed against a wall, so to get out of the bed, I either have to crawl to the end of it or go out on my husband's side. I sleep against the wall. I know that I crawled out of bed on my husband's side. (And there's absolutely no way I crawled out of bed without noticing him--he is a VERY large man--6'7" and 275 lbs.)

My first thought was that he waited until I was in bed to go with his friend. I grabbed my cell phone and the house phone and tried to call his phone and it went straight to voice mail. I noticed both doors were locked, the car/house keys were on the table like usual, and his shoes were still here. I was frantic because I was concerned he had some kind of PTSD episode and had wandered off or something. I went into the bathroom (right next to our bedroom) and frantically kept trying to call his cell phone and was crying very loudly, "Where are you....where are you...."

Now he is a large man and our house is on pier-and-beams, so I can hear him walking around. He just suddenly appeared in the hallway saying, "I'm here. What's wrong? I'm here." This was at about 3:41 AM. He was gone for at least 23 minutes.

I hugged him for a few minutes and we both laid back down in bed. He said I cried the rest of the night (though I don't remember it).

At the risk of sounding like a lunatic, I explained to him what happened later that day. He says he does not remember getting up out of the bed, only hearing me cry, and being in the hallway. He noticed there was a cut on the side of his hand and a few days later, he pulled a tiny glass-like object out of the cut. He never bled.

Does this sound like an abduction? He has had a lot of weird experiences in his life, but I didn't know him yet. I have been scared to go to sleep since then.

Thanks if you read through this.

Any other clues to point you in the direction of abduction?

Are you sure it wasn't you that had some sort of breakdown or episode? Especially if you can't even remember crying through the rest of the night.

So, you? or your husband?

And from the op "Does this sound like an abduction? He has had a lot of weird experiences in his life, but I didn't know him yet. I have been scared to go to sleep since then."

You didnt (sic) know your husband yet?

While the title of the post is misleading the story is the same. It does raise the question of the true intent of the OP though.

she probably means she had not met him at that time

hmm, while it could be, i would need more info. But the fact that he has PTSD, he may have hurt himself while sleep walking. Yes uncommon for adults, but still happens. He could have had an episode and not remembered or jerked awake until he heard you. My stepfather is also a really big guy, and he's also thequie test in the house, worse then a mouse.

And noyou are not crazy!

The post on the other forum put that title in for me. I couldn't change it. It was him, not me.

I know he wasn't in the house during that time period. Our house is small, about 1000 sq ft and on pier and beams. You can hear anyone walking in the house. The floor creaks.

He says all he remembers is laying in bed and then being in the hallway hearing me crying.

I have known him for 5.5 years. He had strange experiences previously.

And the doors were locked and his house key was inside, so I know he didn't leave and come back home.

Hi kintun, any chance you can post a pic of the tiny glass-like object?

Give us an idea of his other experiences.

I dreamt I was covered in spiders and leapt out of bed swearing once, the leap was real but the dream was (obviously) a dream.

People sleep walk. People lucid dream.

You were worried about your hubby being missing. No doubt you are generally worried about him given his PTSD. That all found it's way into a dream about not being able to find him and you woke up screaming in the hallway. You didn't "feel" your husband in bed etc because you were still effectively asleep.

I was not sleeping for sure. I had to turn on my cell phone and made several texts and calls, trying to locate him. I turned on lights throughout the house. I checked on my children.

He claims to have several experiences where he's dreaded going to bed throughout his life. He says he'll remember laying down, have dreams involving aliens that look like humans, and then suddenly be awake in bed. He says it isn't like waking up, more like he's just suddenly there.

He seems to have very good premonitions, not necessarily all bad stuff. He has a strong electrical signature. Lights go out around him. Radios can't get a signal, etc.

I wasn't sleeping when I was attacked by the spiders either, then I woke up.

What the human mind is capable f creating is amazing.

Sleep walking perhaps? Sounds more plausible than space aliens, of which there is no evidence of their existence.

That's a very good point SP. I was going to ask the same question. At the very least it could have been some kind of waking dream driven by anxiety.

He suffers from PTSD and had also broken his neck in a motorcycle accident about 8 years ago. He wanted to go to a casino.

This is exactly why I hadn't asked this question until yesterday, I was afraid people would think I was crazy or trying to get a rise out of people.

Had I been sleep-walking, it would've woken up my husband. Because he is supremely paranoid and a light sleeper, he wakes up very easily. I crawled out of the bed on his side. Had I crawled over him, he would've definitely woken up. I've, in the past, had many experiences of sleep paralysis, but never have I once sleep-walked. I am 100% certain I was completely awake.

I can't disregard his experience during this too. He doesn't remember getting up out of bed. He just remembers laying down and then being in the hallway, hearing me crying.

He's always been very insistent that aliens "look like humans," even before this occurred.

And yes, there is proof that aliens exist. It may not be the aliens we see on TV, but life does exist in places other than Earth. Remember that one-celled organisms found on another planet/moon, would still be considered alien life.

I know for a fact that I was awake and that he was not in the house.

ahh ok, many thanks

does he drive?

He does drive, but very rarely (maybe once a week).

Yes, he was awake, sitting on the couch in the living room watching TV.

I only tried calling him. I called twice from our house phone, twice from my cell phone, and sent him three text messages. Yes, they showed up on his phone, and are still there in the call log/text log.

His phone was on the night stand in the bedroom. He keeps it on the coffee table in the living room until he goes to bed, when he puts it on the night stand by his side of the bed.

Yes, he remembers laying down. He says he came to bed around 1 AM. He said he was unusually tired that night and wanted to come to bed earlier, but he avoided it because he was nervous about going to bed for some reason.
