Farage faces jail threat over donations

10 posts in this topic

Nigel Farage broke electoral law in failing to declare donations worth £200,000 during a period of 14 years, the independent politics watchdog said yesterday.

The Ukip leader faces a maximum fine of £20,000 or up to a year in jail if the Electoral Commission decides to refer the case for criminal prosecution and Mr Farage is convicted.

It could be that neither he nor anyone else in his party have any idea what they are doing. Clueless rookies in a specialist field. The fact that many of my fellow Britons have actually voted for them makes me fear for our future.

well, lets be honest they've tried everything to bring this man down. and yet again the headline doesn't match the story. When people see the figure £200,000 pounds they'll automatically think this £200,000 was in the form of money. but no, Nigel Farage was given the Free use of a barn, an old grain store for use as his office. so basically the owner of the barn has given Nigel the free use of a converted barn as his office and is not charging any rent. every year since accepting the offer of a rent free barn for use as a office Nigel Farage as declared this fact. so it hasn't cost any tax payer a single penny. but for some strange reason the the 'electoral commission' as decided the gift or offer of using the barn is in fact a benefit in kind.

the exact figure is £205,603 and is the value of the rent free deal. the people of this country will see this for what it is, something sinister is at play here. mentioned in the article above is the possibility of Jail. - funny, if your convicted and serve time in jail you cannot become an MP. Nigel is odds on favourite to become a MP for the first time in the coming general election in 2015. plenty of time to put a case together and get a conviction before the election. this is what happens when you take on the political establishment. its new for you and me witnessing this because no political party has achieved what UKIP have achieved in the last hundred years. F

For far to long the three main parties have ruled roughshod over the people accepting defeat knowing that if not elected this time - then next time, as we've seen with the ping pong politics, Labour government - Tory government - Labour government - Tory government - Labour government you get the gist.

The b******* will do their best to nail him im sure. c;mon Nigel fight them all the way.

Just because the two party system sucks doesn't mean you should replace it with whatever's available. UKIP are British Nationalists. Bigots, like all natonalists. Nothing is the fault of the British people (it's us who elect all these cretins), it's Johnny Foreigner who's to blame!

Presumably the SNP fall under that banner too in your opinion?

Farage claims he declared this benefit-in-kind every year to the relevant European authority as he was an MEP, but why would he simply accept the "legal advice" he claimed he received that he was not required to declare this also to the relevant UK authority? Why not confirm this with that authority itself?

In my opinion, his story rings that he has either tried to "get away with it", or he has been negligently stupid.

The bloke is flying so high above the clouds that he thinks he is untouchable... also known as the Nixon syndrome.
