Well, there is an interesting passage in Genesis:

"In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened. And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights." Genesis 7:11-12 (King James)

People have said that 40 days and nights of rain could not have covered the earth, but the passage suggests there was water below ground as well. Now scientists tell us the water below ground is three times greater than the volume of our oceans. Interesting.

You were right on your fisrt post XenoFish, and great question about life-forms.

It would be very narrow minded to suppose that there would be nowhere under the earth's crust where there was not a huge out-cropping of water, or reservoir in many places where life might have been continuing for millions of years undisturbed. Earth’s a mighty big place, weighing some 5.9721986x10²¹t metric tons, that’s a lot of space, too much space, for anyone to say there couldn’t be any vast underground oceans or lakes.

This is a great post, this is exactly how the world of science is supposed to function. Science Fiction writers create the arena for new science, called (Speculative Science), and regular scientists apply foundational scientific principles to PUSH those boundaries for new discoveries and developments. This is exactly what I was thinking, given the discovery of life in the most extreme of circumstances and environments on this little planet already, surely wonders await us deep beneath in Earth's 'Second Sea'. Thought provoking article!
