Popular Post Taun Posted June 19, 2014 Popular Post #3 Share Posted June 19, 2014 (edited) I agree with eldo... That's one of the best things about being divorced... silence! The biggest "fight" my (then) wife and I ever had: I was reading a book and she was watching TV.. On the program a panel of women were talking about how on average women speak 25,000 to 30,000 words a day and men only speak 10,000 to 12,000... This indicates that men need to learn to open up more and speak more... yadda yadda... My wife interrupted my reading and asked me what I thought... To which I responded, "Or maybe some women need to learn when to shut up"... She then proceeded to use her entire weeks allocation of words in about 20 mins.... shrooma Posted June 19, 2014 #8 Share Posted June 19, 2014 i can't watch the video as the link isn't showing on my phone, but i kinda get the gist from your comments. from what very little tv i see- other people's, i don't own one- every advert seems to portray men as simpletons, unable to accomplish even the most basic tasks without the aid of a smarmy, smug-looking woman to help him, or do the task for him, him being a pathetic wretch of a human being. i know that adverts aren't an accurate representation of real life, just an ad (wo)man's version to sell more oven cleaner, but it does seem that men nowadays are being portrayed as toothless eunuchs. . i blame the spice girls....

StarMountainKid Posted June 20, 2014 #13 Share Posted June 20, 2014 I listened for a while while washing dishes. She seems to be touting a conservative agenda, talking about liberals being communists. I didn't listen to it all so, whatever. If it takes someone 1 1/2 hours to make their point, well... P.S. I didn't know I could write a sentence with 'while while' in it that would made sense. I did learn something from this thread after all.

Yeh, funny how you were the only one who picked that out when she blatantly actually said it - feminism is a form of social marxism, oh for gods sake, really? Sean93 Posted June 20, 2014 #15 Share Posted June 20, 2014 (edited) It's pretty messed up that the face of feminism isn't the women being sex trafficked or stoned to death for showing her skin - it's crazy, anti-Egalitarian nutcases throwing around buzzwords and crying 'Rape, Misogyny, Oppression!' at every little word and quip around them and thanks to things like Twitter, everybody in that bowl of fruits and nuts has a soap box to stand on. Leonardo Posted June 20, 2014 #16 Share Posted June 20, 2014 (edited) The video is ridiculous. One girl, with conservative tendencies, presumes to tell everyone that what she believes feminism to be - as viewed through her own ideological prism - is what feminism is. She lambasts those who hold opinions which oppose her own, but then expects everyone to accept her opinion as 'authoritative'. It's nothing more than an ego-trip, and a poorly concealed attack on the "liberal left". Edited June 20, 2014 by Leonardo
Lilly Posted June 20, 2014 #17 Share Posted June 20, 2014 I agree with eldo... That's one of the best things about being divorced... silence!... Quite true, but in my case my ex-husband was a shouter/complainer. You see, it works both ways. Also, there are nutty traditional women and nutty feminist women. How this craziness constitues a "war on men" eldues me.
+Liquid Gardens Posted June 20, 2014 #18 Share Posted June 20, 2014 I'd have to agree with the ridiculousness of it also, she's all over the board and the brush she's painting with is huge. I did think it was funny though that the intro text trying to establish her patriotism/martyrism referred to her as a 'YouTube researcher'; usually 'researcher' is prefixed with something more substantial, like "Harvard researcher' or 'NASA researcher', not 'YouTube'.
Phaeton80 Posted June 20, 2014 Author #19 Share Posted June 20, 2014 Interesting points of critique. Not regarding actual specific content / positions, but keeping it extremely broad and vague seems to be the general pattern here. 'Her voice is irritating', 'she says this or that too often', 'Im not going to listen to a woman for one and a half hours', 'her brush is too big'. Again, interesting (yet also somewhat disappointing). Thanks for the input (and this is not meant in a sarcastic way). Another one for the record; one doesnt need to watch the whole 1,5 hrs to grasp her main points.

That last part of yours is absolutely true, her right wing agenda was obvious within the first 15 minutes, right when she started equating the feminist movement with socialism. The disconnect is too huge to bother with quite frankly. Edited June 20, 2014 by libstaK

Leonardo Posted June 20, 2014 #22 Share Posted June 20, 2014 Thank you for your opinion LibstaK. Did you also listen to her explain why she connects it with socialism? You mean because of her misconception that feminism is no longer about women having social and legal equality with men? Her argument regarding that, that 'special interest groups' have hijacked the feminist movement to promote their own agenda, does not constitute a change in the meaning of feminism. If she cannot separate the concept of feminism from those who use the word without it's meaning, then she doesn't deserve to be granted validity in her argument.
libstaK Posted June 20, 2014 #23 Share Posted June 20, 2014 Thank you for your opinion LibstaK. Did you also listen to her explain why she connects it with socialism? Yes I did listen to some of that and the fact that the two are very different animals was well pointed out by Leonardo, it was at that point that I zoned out due to not wanting to hear a convoluted version of connect the dots on such disparate items. Actually, I'd be more interested in what you think of her video, Phaeton, in more specifics; in a way it's tough to discuss this since she isn't here to talk to. To be fair, you also are keeping whatever you'd like to specifically discuss on this thread extremely broad and vague also, there are a lot of points she can cram in in 1.5 hours, and all I really know is that you kinda agree with the general gist of it all at least. It kinda comes across like you posted the video and you'd like everyone else to discuss it while you sit back and grade the responses you get without engaging in the discussion yourself. Not trying to bash you, honestly, and it's fine if you want to just drop the video here and see what everyone thinks, although I think the video's way too long to effectively do that, that's cool too. But if you're going to critique the responses you've received I think that opens up your participation to evaluation here also, which isn't much less somewhat disappointing than anyone else's. I skipped around to various parts in the video and watched a total of maybe five minutes of it. What I mean by 'brush too big' is later in the video where she speaks of 'men' and 'women' and 'feminine' and 'masculine' in somewhat stereotypical ways. She talks in general about how 'men don't x anymore' and 'women want z' as if 'men' and 'women' are monolithic groups and she can speak on all women's behalf, ergo my reference to 'big brush'. And unfortunately it started sounding a bit like she wishes a return to the era of more strict gender roles (those glorious days when men were 'men') as far as behavior between the sexes, and it's this expectation historically of gender role conformity that has in part required the concept of 'feminism' in the first place.
White Crane Feather Posted June 21, 2014 #25 Share Posted June 21, 2014 ...... She has some good points, but anyone who talks and talks and talks is bound to have some. I got through about 5 minute of skipping forward, but listening to a twenty something talk for an hour is simply impossible for me: not that she is not a smart thoughtful young person right or wrong, she admits her ego... That's enough for me.
