Rolf Harris found guilty of indecent assault. Can expect to be jailed

Veteran entertainer and artist convicted of 12 counts of indecent assault from charges dating over nearly two decades

The veteran entertainer and artist Rolf Harris has been found guilty of indecent assault following a trial in which he was portrayed as a "Jekyll and Hyde" character who used his celebrity status to grope and abuse young women and girls.

Following a dramatic six-week hearing, the jury at Southwark crown court convicted Harris of 12 counts of indecent assault, from 12 initial charges dating over nearly two decades from 1968.

The prosecution presented the 84-year-old Australian-born star as an arrogant and reckless serial molester who treated his victims as "sexual objects to be groped and mauled when he felt like it".

I've just been looking at this on Sky.com. To be honest I don't know what to think, I'm quite shocked at this outcome really. It seems that since Jimmy Savile there's been one celebrity after another on trial. Whoever next!

Exactly! Saville 'was' creepy and no real surprise at what he did - but Id never have thought Rolf did what he was accused of. A firm family fave in the UK, and elsewhere Id expect

As a star he failed in his duty of responsibility to behave correctly towards youngsters he came into contact with. The pervert also pleaded guilty to some of the charges of indecent assaults but not others. I think taking these points into consideration the judge will impose a moderate sentence.

However the problem is that indecent assault isn't a serious offence. It isn't rape or child porn so with a moderate sentence he may infact escape prison. He might get fined, have to pay costs and get a 2 years suspended sentence on condition he behaves himself and seeks professional treatment.

Even if he does escape prison everybody on the planet knows who he is and knows he's a pervert. His life is effectively over so he is gonna learn a severe and deserved lesson!

Even before the trial started I was laughing that Rolf Harris has that sterotypical image you'd expert of a seedy, degenerate, pervert!

I would never have thought this, what the hell was going on in television in the 60s and 70s that the profession was riddled with deviants?

Actually I read an interview in which an actress, who started her career in the 60s said, that in those times if a woman wanted to have succes she had to sleep with the director/producer in most of the cases, if they refused they didnt get the job ... it was very common in the show business at that time she said.

So I am not so shocked I think there were many people who misused there power.

I think its called a culture of deviance. Watch this little clip to understand that it was known about and condoned at the highest levels within the BBC:

The drama series "Red Riding" rings more and more true every passing day.

More charges may come too, this in the news:

Rolf Harris guilty: More alleged victims come forward

Up to 12 more people have come forward with claims of abuse against disgraced entertainer Rolf Harris, lawyers say.

Police have already said they are considering new allegations against Harris after he was found guilty of 12 counts of indecent assault against four victims between the 1960s and 80s.

We had our first TV in 1954, when I was four, and Rolf Harris was one of the first people I remember watching. I have been more shocked about his fall from grace than that of any other celeb. Savile was always a weirdo! I hope Harris doesn't see the light of day again once he is put in prison. Paedophiles are as bad as murderers, imo.

I hope it does not take as long to jail some of today's wayward pop stars...

Maybe R-Kelly will get what he deserves long before hitting his 80's.

I was expecting more smoke after Michael Jacksons death, maybe it is an indication of his innocence or the legacy of his power.

It is my own personal experience that when people are faced with the personal reality of this they would rather live in denial than accept the reality on their own doorstep.

It was disturbing that documentary. The fact he was saying I hate kids because if you say you like them you get accused of things was very revealing in light of subsequent events.

Harris has been sentenced to 5 years 9 months in prison. If the offences had been committed more recently he would have been sentenced to much longer in prison.

At his age its unlikey he'll be alive in 6 years. They'll have him in prison too. I hope it teaches him something.
