bubblykiss Posted July 13, 2014 #1 Share Posted July 13, 2014 Amazon seeks FAA permission to test drones outdoors near Seattle http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/07/11/us-amazon-com-drones-idUSKBN0FG08B20140711 (Reuters) - Amazon.com Inc is seeking permission from U.S. regulators to test its delivery drones near Seattle, as part of a rapid expansion of a program that has sparked widespread debate over the safety and privacy implications of drone technology. Chief Executive Jeff Bezos wants to use drones - small unmanned aircraft - to deliver packages in 30 minutes or less as part of the program dubbed "Prime Air." The company is developing drones that can fly at speeds of 50 miles per hour. Several thoughts come to mind at once.....if you need your books in 30m or less, why don't you just go to the damned book store and get them then and there? Also a joke about asking the FAA for permission to use unmanned flying robots over major American cities......so many jokes are built around that one. +and-then Posted July 13, 2014 #3 Share Posted July 13, 2014 I think this is all a bit surreal. If it were April I'd suspect a gag.
ninjadude Posted July 13, 2014 #4 Share Posted July 13, 2014 I thought I read that the FAA specifically prohibited Amazon drones on 6/24 after the 60min report on it. http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2014/06/faa-grounds-amazons-drone-delivery-plans/
Gromdor Posted July 14, 2014 #5 Share Posted July 14, 2014 Amazon drops off a heck of a lot of stuff more than books. The wife orders everything from shoes to doorknobs to food.
