Astra. Posted August 12, 2014 #53 Share Posted August 12, 2014 I'm so saddened by this news. His gift was to make people laugh. Such a talented man. Rest In Peace Robin x
bubblykiss Posted August 12, 2014 #54 Share Posted August 12, 2014 This one hit me outta nowhere. Like an ex-wife drunk dialing you 13 years later at 2:37am to talk about frogs. Whatever pain he knew is gone and god bless him for the years of wit, charm and blazingly amazing humor.

aquatus1 Posted August 12, 2014 #57 Share Posted August 12, 2014 So sad, I'm shocked. I loved his stand-up routines, and some of his roles in film were simply inspired. It's not his most popular film, but my favourite movie he starred in was Death To Smoochy, and sadly I think the reason why I loved him so much in it was that the role he played reflected his real life dark side in such comic relief , really a reflection of himself. RIP Robin Williams. I can't believe someone besides me likes that movie. My personal favorite line is towards the end, after he attacks the person trying to kill Smoochy and security helps him stand up: "Are you alright, sir?" "I think so, I'm normally pretty *****ed up, so It's hard to tell."

"I think so, I'm normally pretty *****ed up, so It's hard to tell." Indeed, that's kind of the line I thought of that describes Robin Williams - he was depressed, but he hid it behind such amazing humour. But it's a highlight in a movie full of highlights. As an aside, I was looking through my computer found an old copy of the movie Hook, starring Robin Williams and another great actor who passed away only a couple of months back (Bob Hoskins plays Smee), in honour of both of them I'm going to waste my afternoon watching this movie (a childhood favourite of mine).
Crabby Kitten Posted August 12, 2014 #60 Share Posted August 12, 2014 I was really tiny watching him on Mork and Mindy. Since then I've always found his films heart warming and funny. Sad to hear that he's gone. RIP Robin Williams. You've been loved by many.

keithisco Posted August 12, 2014 #62 Share Posted August 12, 2014 Sad, Sad, news. He gave so much joy to so many people.. US actor and comedian Robin Williams has been found dead, aged 63, in an apparent suicide. Marin County Police in California said he was pronounced dead at his home shortly after officials responded to an emergency call around noon local time. Williams was famous for such films as Good Morning Vietnam and Dead Poets Society and won an Oscar for his role in Good Will Hunting. His publicist said he had been "battling severe depression". In the past he had talked, and even joked, about his struggles with alcohol and drugs. krypter3 Posted August 12, 2014 #63 Share Posted August 12, 2014 Not usually that guy, and I loved Robin Williams as an actor and it's sad he's dead but. Says a lot about the world when the death of one celebrity makes headline news hours after his death and be on every channel, when it took 6 months and over 500 deaths for Ebola to even become second page news. RIP Williams

RIP Williams There are several threads and multiple posts regarding the ongoing Ebola tragedy on this very forum. A single thread on the death of a much loved (by many) actor in no way diminishes the Ebola crisis and you do not stop reporting or commenting on all other news to focus on just one topic. Robin Williams was one of those folk that never bought into the whole "Hollywood Lifestyle" nonsense, but did have to fight his own demons, in a battle that he appears sadly to have lost.

Mabon Posted August 12, 2014 #67 Share Posted August 12, 2014 This is such unexpected and sad news! *sighs* The first time I saw him was on "Happy Days" when he played Mork and I was struck by his comic genius at him stealing the show from the Fonz! I loved Mork and Mindy and wanted one of the Mork dolls well I really wanted one that talked dirty! LOL! There were rumors that some of the outtakes made it past the censors and were accidentally included as the voice activated dialog. The suspenders and crazy socks.... His transition to film from television seemed right as the small screen couldn't contain him. He made his films look easy even if the subject material wasn't, the Fisher king was a difficult film to watch but he held nothing back from the character and it is a great film about the frailty of us and so is 24 hour photo. And I loved him as Genie in Aladdin or in the Bird Cage, his stand up and other work. Honestly this is truly sad and I hope that his family finds comfort and peace. IMO it's quite likely that she phoned him. My kids are 26 and 28...I could never 'do myself in' and leave them. Poor Robin Williams must have been in one hell of a state to have done this.
libstaK Posted August 12, 2014 #70 Share Posted August 12, 2014 I'm watching What Dreams May Come - it happened to be on when I switched on the tube. It's so surreal because it is the part where he is in his own created Heaven. I can't believe he is gone, RIP RW thanks for the laughs and for sharing your beautiful soul with the world.
ChewiesArmy Posted August 12, 2014 #71 Share Posted August 12, 2014 As somebody mentioned, Robin was awesome in Death To Smoochy...such an underrated film. I always loved seeing Robin on the Tonight Show whenever Jonathan Winters was on. Those two always had everybody in tears. They played off of each other so amazingly.
