Video embedding

Is there a new code for embedding youtube clips?

I used to have no problem, but now, for some reason, they never show up embedded...just the url is posted.

Any clue what I am doing wrong?

I am as techno savvy as your average neolithic refugee, so I'm also curious.

Can you show us an example of a video link that you haven't been able to embed ?

I was just wondering about that. Didn't there used to be an icon for it? I think you have to type something like [media] or something, don't you, but I forget what it is now. I have to content myself with just putting links. :(

The issue is that the link needs to be "http" and not "https" as the forum won't be able to pick it up as a YouTube link.

YouTube has now changed all its links to https by default so you need to remove the 's' each time you post a video.

That would explain it. I noticed the "s" but didn't think anything about it...

Thanks for the help...will try it out later.

I tried it in "What are you listening to", but I still couldn't find out how to insert it. Let me try another one just by way of experiment:

hooray! It works! Thank you.

I have the same problem, allow me to do a random YouTube test vid, modifying the https to http...

Ah, worked great! Thanks everyone.

I also found that, at least in my case, the https(just the s) must be deleted to http in the original YouTube address bar before a copy and paste. NOT AFTER the https is already posted on UM.

The single click highlight in the address bar no longer highlights the entire link(as it did before changing from https to http), so you have to do a manual "drag" highlight to get the full link highlighted, if you know what I mean.

From that, you then copy and paste to UM.

Oh, I forgot to add...

It's an all too common accidental mistake that while deleting the "s" from https, that the following, necessary colon(https:) is also deleted.

It's right next to the "s", and easily mistakenly deleted.

Just step back and redo the whole thing(you may indeed have to re-load the YouTube vid to do this), preserving the necessary colon to http:

And do not delete the //

Notice that, in doing this modification for UM embedding, https:// becomes http://

The colon and forward slashes MUST be preserved.

Again, this must be done in the original address bar of YouTube, not in UM, and that YouTube modification will require a "drag" highlight...all the way to the right even if it's extensions are beyond the visible address bar.

After properly modifying https:// to http:// position your cursor to the very beginning of the address.

Left click, holding that left click, and drag across the entire address bar(with your mouse or touchpad) and beyond if necessary.

This will highlight the entire address.

Keep your cursor in the highlighted area.

From there, hold still, and you can right click and copy.

Go to your UM post, position your cursor, right click and paste. All will be good.

Oh, it is working now. I wish it would make its mind up. Please disregard.
