Blood found INSIDE banana kid was gonna eat!

George Ford

A mother was shocked to find what is thought to be blood inside her banana which she bought in an Aldi's store!

Read the story here:- http://www.sunderlan...&obref=obinsite

-edit-

And it's not the 1st time it's happened! Look here, there is an urban legend already knocking about that people are injecting AIDS infected blood into bananas!

here:- https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090608075519AAlxR73

Except I bet now with the more recent sensation being Ebola, I bet this story eventually gets linked to Ebola.

Strangely enough, the Aldi's website hasn't recalled any bananas. There also seems to be a 'link' to the other tained fruit issue that has no conclusive proof (likely a hoax for the blood oranges). I'm going to contact the Aldi's headquarters and ask about it.

Oh, and as for food borne aids, it would need to be rather fresh as HIV and AIDS cannot live for long outside of the body. Also CDC states:

Except for rare cases in which children consumed food that was pre-chewed by an HIV-infected caregiver, HIV has not been spread through food. The virus does not live long outside the body. You cannot get it from consuming food handled by an HIV-infected person; even if the food contained small amounts of HIV-infected blood or semen, exposure to the air, heat from cooking, and stomach acid would destroy the virus.

From that pic it looks like a rotten banana.

The result of tests on the bananas are still to be revealed by the supermarket.

I would imagine if they thought it were an infected banana, they would have taken every banana off the shelves without even waiting for the results, which is why I can only assume this is a rotten banana and the mother is overacting, and facebook has not helped matters.....panic stations!!!!!!

Ebola is not spread through the air, by water, or in general, by food. However, in Africa, Ebola may be spread as a result of handling bushmeat (wild animals hunted for food) and contact with infected bats. There is no evidence that mosquitoes or other insects can transmit Ebola virus.
CDC: http://www.cdc.gov/v...a/transmission/

and it's shelf life:

Ebola is killed with hospital-grade disinfectants (such as household bleach). Ebola on dry surfaces, such as doorknobs and countertops, can survive for several hours; however, virus in body fluids (such as blood) can survive up to several days at room temperature.

Plus many bananas are shipped in refrigerated cargo containers, so the odds are exceedingly slim that ebola infested bananas are to be worried about:

http://www.bananalin...nanas-are-grown

But as a whole, ebola isn't that scary, in the grand scheme. Remember when everyone was fearing west nile, bird flu, swine flu, aids epidemic, etc? Yes, people get sick, it happens. Is it as destructive as the media suggests? Hell no.

http://www.livescience.com/48263-ebola-mortality-us-africa.html

Statistically speaking, this means that African patients with Ebola have about a one-in-two chance of surviving the illness, according to the CDC. It should be noted that fatality rates can vary widely from country to country, so Ebola patients' chances of survival might be greater or less than 50 percent depending on where they're located.

But if Ebola were to become widespread in the U.S.— a situation that public health organizations believe is highly unlikely — the mortality rate from the virus would likely be lower than it is in West Africa, said Dr. William Schaffner, a professor of preventive medicine and infectious diseases at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.

"The death rate would be lower in the U.S.," Schaffner told Live Science. "Everybody believes we could move it down from 50 percent to 30 percent, or perhaps even lower than that."

Also, to reduce fears from ebol for you, this is what I had posted on my facebook for friends.

Not counting this year, number of Ebola deaths since 1976: 1590 (Give or take an error on my part, will add links).

Number of average obesity related deaths per year? Approx 3.4 million.

Number of Cancer deaths per (US) year? Approx 285, 000.

So, about 1600 deaths over a 38 year period OR 3000 adult deaths due to choking. You are in more danger from eating.

Ebola stats: http://www.who.int/m...heets/fs103/en/

Obesity: http://www.who.int/m...heets/fs311/en/

Cancer: http://www.cancer.or.../acspc-…

Choking: http://www.faqs.org/...66/Choking.html

Summary: An average of 42 deaths per year due to ebola.

An average of 130 deaths per year by hitting a deer while in a car.

Statistically, nothing to be afraid of.

EDIT: Numbers are off, this was posted last year.

None that I could find. Sorry.

I'd bet the radiation in the banana handles the disease. ;)

Methinks somebody's after compensation, She got her £1.09 back, What more does she expect.

The fruit looks rotten to me, Aldi's haven't revealed the results of the testing yet but I'm willing to bet that its not blood.

These supermarkets would not take a chance and keep the nannas on the shelves until the results got back if they suspected it could be blood injected into their nannas, but i have read somewhere that rotten bananas do make good banana bread, maybe the mother should not throw it away after all. :w00t:

I think a year free supply of bananas would be good for her.....even throw in a couple of rotten ones, for the banana bread.

Bathtubs as well: A new CPSC report on in home drownings and non-fatal submersions (pdf) in products such as bathtubs, buckets, bath seats, toilets, and landscaping features indicates that from 2006 to 2010, there were 684 incidents involving children younger than five-years-old. This figure includes 434 fatalities (an average of 87 per year), 233 injuries, and 17 incidents with no known injuries.

Average of 87 deaths per year...

Rotten bananas develop up to 1,2% of allohohl (German word for alcohol if pronounced by a sloshed German person). So if her suckers

eat that bread in school they will get sloshed there and we will have the next scandal. In Millfield. Horror!

Darn!!! no rotten bananas on shelves....will have to email Aldi`s and complain!!

If I buy some non rotton ones, Do you know how many we will need to make a full pint and how many days does it take to produce the alcohol and how do we get the alcohol out or do we just eat them or throw them in a blender?

Hope this is not going to be complicated, i only want a bit of alcohol.
