The Political Compass Quiz

Yamato

Recommended Posts

I hope everyone here at UM from all countries takes the quiz and posts their coordinates (similar to the Cartesian Plane's x and y axis we learned in Algebra).

The point of this exercise isn't to judge each other so I hope we can all avoid that. Everyone's results should be respected. By sharing them with the UM community we can all know each other a little better.

Take your time with it, think about the questions and read the questions and answers carefully before answering. Hope we can all have some fun here. Good luck!

Well I'm three pages in, but I don't see myself getting an accurate result. Too many questions I'm either indifferent towards(I don't agree or disagree) or realize the truth of one view point, but still personally prefer the other making me torn on the issue.

The trouble with these "Agree/Disagree" questions is always that there are quite often cases where the answer might be "agree in some cases but not perhaps in others".

Anyway, what does it come up with?

Well, approximately the same as Gandhi ... :innocent:

Your Political Compass

Economic Left/Right: -5.0

Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.36

Actually I'd disagree with them about Thatcher being fundamentally authoritarian, but that's another question.

Edit : what does this mean if I were an American ? What kind of an American will I be ?

One problem with surveys such as this, is the bias of the questioner/examiner regarding their interpretation of how some of the questions should be answered.

For example, the third question on the survey is...

"No one chooses his or her country of birth, so it's foolish to be proud of it."

...where the examiner shows their own bias in the use of the word "foolish" in describing how the respondent might feel if they are proud of their country. Okay the question is intended to require the responder to answer in a way that indicates how 'tribal' they are - but tribalism isn't a "foolish" behaviour, it's a natural behaviour. We are thinking apes so we can, if we apply ourselves, sometimes act contrary to our nature, but to suggest that nature as being "foolish" is unnecessary and imposes a false sense of guilt onto those who chose to act naturally.

Many of the questions were very open ended that I could easily answer most question in one of three different ways. But I guess I'll be the most Centrist on this forum:

Economic Left/Right: 0.75

Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 0.26

Sorry Yam, I am not a neocon or any of the other insults you throw at people. But we realize that it is only your inabilities.
