Very interesting, thank you Mr/Mrs Bot.

It's not a fair test though. He was talking to someone that he knew, not just to himself, and he had a light in there that he could turn on at any time. A greater sense of isolation could have produced a very different result.

I spend more than 45 minutes in a dark and silent room on a regular basis, its called sleep.

I'd take some nice silence over this constant tinnitus anyday.

Living next to two barking 'dogs from hell', the silence in that room is inviting and I feel I could cope fine with that. The room being pitch-black would be not so inviting, I'm not used to that unless it involves sleep where it wouldn't matter anyway. Generally I don't like a lot of background noise just for the sake of it, it's nice to have some quiet.
