Evil spirits is an odd way of talking about the students.

Aye. Inviting religious leaders to the school to banish the demons is the way to go. That'll teach them!

This is weird how often it is happening. Mass hysteria is what you would call it but it sounds like a pretty weak explanation

Well it's funny when you are on the outside looking in ... when you are in the midst of it all it ain't so much fun or games ~

Not sure why it happens or how but it does happen ... usually traumatic to the point of psychological is the best as anyone can suggest anything that is near explanatory of it all ~

Not sure but some have suggested it may be related to :

Latah, from Southeast Asia, is a condition in which abnormal behaviors result from a person experiencing shock. When surprised, the affected person typically engages in such behaviors as screaming, cursing, dancing type movements, and uncontrollable laughter.[1]

It is called melatah in Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei and Indonesia and many people, regardless of age or gender have this condition. Even though it is not dangerous, it may cause harm to the person and the people around them due to their random movements and shoutings.

Latah is considered a culture-specific startle disorder[2][3] that was historically regarded as personal difference rather than an illness.[1][3]

Persons with Latah make movements reminiscent of behaviors normally peculiar to certain childhood developmental stages.[citation needed]

Similar conditions have been recorded within other cultures and locations. For example, there are the so-called Jumping Frenchmen of Maine, the women of the Ainu people of Japan (imu),[clarification needed] the Siberian (miryachit), and the Filipino[clarification needed] and Thai[clarification needed] peoples; however, the connection among these syndromes[clarification needed] is controversial.[1]

sometimes it is just plain humorous ~

It's adults putting silly superstitious claptrap into the heads of children that causes it. Terrifying children not just to amuse them but to control them. No? Like our Elders do to us.

Not quite so simple ... like 'Culture Shock' was a problem back then, this is just another aspect of certain cultures you can't just wave a magic wand over and its all rainbows and butterflies ~

Edit : While I was at the Hospital (getting my bruises and leg fixed) I did overhear some Doctors talking about this and they did mention that the current heatwave in the country might have contributed to the extent of the seriousness ~

Aldous Huxley wrote a novel about this sort of thing "The devils of Loudun" in 1952 about a well known incident in 17th century France, also dramatised in the 1960s as a play and a movie in 1971. One of the central figures, Fr. Urbain Grandier was burnt at the stake in 1634 over it. Mass hysteria in a convent was the problem.

One kid does it, others see it and copy the behavior, either for attention (most likely) or are psyching themselves out about this...psychosomatic s
