Still Waters Posted May 24, 2016 #1 Share Posted May 24, 2016 Those who fancy a quick dip to cool off this summer have been told to look out for one metre long lampreys, with razor-sharp teeth, in Britain’s waterways. The ‘vampire fish’ have funnel-like mouths which are designed to clamp on to skin so they can feast on flesh. Milton Keynes wild swimmer Matt Clarke, 31, who swims in the River Great Ouse as it runs through Olney, told the Daily Mail he was alerted to the dangers of the fish after watching River Monsters, the ITV documentary. http://www.thebritishjournal.com/science/vampire-fish-blood-sucking-river-monsters-return-britains-waters-summer-872-2016/
DeeSember Posted May 24, 2016 #2 Share Posted May 24, 2016 I have watched River Monsters and will no longer swim in lakes, streams, rivers seas or oceans. Man made pools that are 100% clear for me! Having read so many things and watched TV shows that tell you what is lurking below...Caused me to have a phobia about it.

fred_mc Posted May 24, 2016 #5 Share Posted May 24, 2016 (edited) Lampreys seem to be pretty interesting animals. I saw the first episode of a series with David Attenborough the other day about development of life on Earth. In it, David Attenborough was holding a lamprey in a boat in a British river while explaining that lampreys are very primitive fish without a jaw that have survived from an early time in the development of life on Earth. jarjarbinks Posted May 24, 2016 #6 Share Posted May 24, 2016 I can only imagine swimming naked in a lake and having that thing right on the pen
Torchwood Posted May 25, 2016 #7 Share Posted May 25, 2016 I'm told they are very tasty, and have been considered a delicacy for centuries. 900 years ago King Henry I apparently died from eating to many....
