Dark_Grey Posted May 24, 2016 #1 Share Posted May 24, 2016 (edited) A US Marine stationed in Okinawa arrested in connection with death of local Japanese woman Rina Shimabukuro, near a US naval base in Okinawa. Quote Japanese leaders reacted with outrage after a U.S. Marine veteran was arrested Thursday in connection with the death of a Japanese woman near a U.S. air base on the island of Okinawa. Kenneth Franklin Gadson, a 32-year-old civilian contractor at Kadena Air Base, admitted to strangling the woman, his defense attorney told Stars and Stripes — though the attorney questioned the condition under the which the admission was made. Rina Shimabukuro had been missing since last month. The 20-year-old’s body was discovered in a wooded location Thursday after Gadson told investigators where to look, according to the Associated Press. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2016/05/20/outrage-in-japan-as-american-arrested-in-connection-with-death-of-woman-on-okinawa/http://www.stripes.com/news/defense-attorney-says-okinawa-confession-made-in-a-daze-1.410588 Gadson admitted to strangling the woman, told investigators where to find the body and the woman's DNA was found in his car. Open and shut case? Hardly. Quote “[He] attempted suicide twice — on May 17 and May 18 — using sleeping pills,” attorney Toshimitsu Takaesu said. “He gave the statement the very next day. He was still in a daze. I do not accept a statement taken under such conditions. Right now it is the statement alone with no supporting evidence.” Good lawyer. Quote Despite Gadson’s apparent confession, his mother said she believed he was innocent. “He didn’t do nothing like that,” she said. “Maybe somebody set him up.” Good mom. Protestors have since gathered to demand the removal of American bases in Japan. Edited May 24, 2016 by Dark_Grey
+and-then Posted May 24, 2016 #2 Share Posted May 24, 2016 He needs to be sent through the Japanese justice system and if convicted receive a punishment suitable to the crime. It ought to be handled publicly and as transparently as possible. If this man killed a 20 year old - for ANY reason - then he needs to pay for the crime promptly. I believe the UCMJ should have no bearing unless a specific Treaty demands it. He isn't covered by the UCMJ as a former service member. Granted, if he's convicted he isn't apt to survive for long in a Japanese prison but IF he did the crime, well, he should have planned ahead, yeah?

Vorg Posted May 28, 2016 #7 Share Posted May 28, 2016 Headline is deceptive as well as your write-up near the links. He is a U.S Marine veteran. Neither article claimed anything but. I would not have read this had it said "U.S Marine veteran arrested in Okinawa."
