seeder Posted May 27, 2016 #1 Share Posted May 27, 2016 Quote US reports first case of bacteria resistant to antibiotic of last resort ‘It is the end of the road for antibiotics unless we act urgently,’ says Centers for Disease Control and Prevention after superbug infects Pennsylvania woman For the first time, a US patient has been infected with bacteria resistant to an antibiotic used as a last resort, scientists said Thursday. The patient, a 49-year-old woman in Pennsylvania, has recovered but health officials fear that if the resistance spreads to other bacteria, the country may soon see supergerms impervious to all known antibiotics. http://www.theguardian.com/society/2016/may/27/us-reports-first-case-of-bacteria-resistant-to-antibiotic-of-last-resort
bubblykiss Posted May 27, 2016 #2 Share Posted May 27, 2016 This is a direct result of the Chinese overusing antibiotics in their pork industry. Now it is only going to get worse.

Yes, I know how often every farmer/live stock grower/producer overuses drugs in order to preserve their very thin profit margins. But the Chinese were the ones who used Colistin to excess because it was, well, really cheap since nobody was using (that whole kidney killing thing deters a lot of people from wanting to employ it to fix infections). Either way this is just terrible news for humanity.
