Space Commander Travis Posted May 28, 2016 #1 Share Posted May 28, 2016 In the face of growing anxiety over the mosquito-borne Zika virus, about 125 experts have signed their names to a letter sent to World Health Organization Director-General Margaret Chan, calling for either the relocation or postponementof the 2016 Rio Summer Olympic Games. Right, this is really practical isn't it. There's loads of places would be able to put it on at a moment's notice, couldn't they. I mean it's not really a big thing is it. Besides, it's not at all hysterical scaremongering. No. "This could be the Olympics of Brain Damage", one leading Scientist said, with that scientific rationality and lack of emotional melodrama that is the hallmark of the responsible scientist. Leonardo Posted May 28, 2016 #3 Share Posted May 28, 2016 As you suggest, Otto, the idea isn't practical, and the dangers of the virus are being somewhat overblown. However, saying that there is a small, but definitely real, danger of possible infection - and visitors to the Games as well as the athletes competing should inform themselves. Visitors should probably go for a check-up after returning to their home nations, while the governments should probably implement a program requiring all people who visit affected countries to undertake a mandatory health-check after returning. I don't really see the Olympics leading to an explosion in the incidence of Zika world-wide. There will probably be a greater impact on the incidence of STD's than Zika.

Sir Wearer of Hats Posted May 31, 2016 #6 Share Posted May 31, 2016 I was under the impression the virus remains in your system for a couple of weeks and then your body deals with it. well if you can't not have sex for a couple of weeks, there's something wrong with you. Taun Posted June 1, 2016 #7 Share Posted June 1, 2016 Shouldn't be any problem at all to move it! Why shoot, we could have it down at the county fair grounds... They've got room for the worlds largest pumpkin... should be plenty of room for a bunch of fellers dressed in shorts and t-shirts to run around in circles!
