Marozi Posted June 18, 2016 #1 Share Posted June 18, 2016 The carcass of an unidentified marine animal was found washed up on Naithon Beach on 16 June, 2016. They've already guessed its a whale or big fish. According to press Dr Kongkiat Kittiwatthanawong, Chief of the Marine Endangered Species Unit at the Phuket Marine Biology Centre (PMBC), and his team will bring it back to their laboratory to identify it. From the picture it appeared to be a whale shark or other type of fish he was cited. (http://www.thephuketnews.com/carcass-of-unidentified-marine-animal-found-washed-up-on-phuket-beach-57890.php#v0zc3OfT7pqKE1M5.97). Its obviously the skull is clearly of a sperm whale, which cranium is so unique due to the bassin-like part. Also the elongated and narrow lower jaw with its teeth is highly distinct. And so not surprisingly on the next day Dr Kongkiat Kittiwatthanawong told press that: “Although the head and much of the body had decomposed, there was enough of the remains to confirm that it was a sperm whale, about 10 metres long.” (http://www.thephuketnews.com/phuket-marine-experts-confirm-mysterious-beached-remains-are-of-sperm-whale-57909.php#VIY7P9I6DPFQfyIC.97). Vlawde Posted June 19, 2016 #3 Share Posted June 19, 2016 I thought the topic title was dismissing the find with a cleverly misspelled profanity!
Marozi Posted June 19, 2016 Author #4 Share Posted June 19, 2016 It was a mystery for at least one day... That's the case with many of those "sea monster" carcasses still discussed today. Take the Ataka case for example, which washed up and only one day after was identified. Still was a mystery for some "monster fans" for over 50 years... That's one of the problems with cryptozoology today. No research, just consuming and rewriting.
+DieChecker Posted June 26, 2016 #5 Share Posted June 26, 2016 Whale corpse debris most likely. A simple DNA test could confirm.
Marozi Posted June 27, 2016 Author #6 Share Posted June 27, 2016 (edited) Sure, but it isn't necessary (as in other cases too). The bones already tell enough. The cranium with its distinct bassin-like back part is still housing (rests of) the junk/spermaceti organ (see here for picture). Furthermore the pics linked above (like this one) show both parts of the distinct elongated lower jaw with its teeth.
