It got old real quick for me. Apparently I'm not the only one, haven't heard it played on radio or elsewhere for years

Thanks, me too. I know people have different tastes. That's cool.

I just think the lead singer's voice is uniquely expressive, his fellow musicians are awesome, and the cinematography for the vid is not too bad.

LV. The reason she doesn't like the song has nothing to do with its creative artistry at all (good or bad)

She doesn't like it because the lyrics "appreciates" women and she hates that because she is a hard-core fundamentalist Christian.

I happen to like the tune, it's artistry and such. I just don't view it in same way as she does.

I respect quality musicians from a broad spectrum of genre. She does not.

And if someone would say "That is NOT quality", all I can say is that they have at least partially succeeded in the music industry and YOU have not. (not you, LZ, just a general statement)

Just being my usual jocular self pallidin. No deep meaning there :D

Head over to the Music you are listening to ♪ ♫ thread if you're partial to the odd tune. All tastes welcome!

Not sure why, but it seems to have slowed down in there since the forum update.

Yeah, without my father I could not have been created.

Without my mother I could not have been born.

Women are special, and I love them.

Ever notice how, with the most hardened criminals, that they love their mom?

So this topic is songs in which women are idolized...

Well the songs I posted... I'm more familiar with the covers but I chose the original recordings for the male perspectives. Btw, did you know that the My Maria you posted is a cover?

Here's the original recording which I like a heck of a lot more.

To be fair most of those criminals probably never had a father who was actually around.

they're also always kind to animals. The lesson here is obvious. Be suspicious of anyone who's kind to animals and loves their dear old mom.

They might say they love their dear old mom, but talk is cheap. And if their old mom is as lovable as they are, well........

Excepting special circumstance, I've noticed (through YouTube clips of persons in prisons) how much they seemingly default to have such a new, strong love for their mom, even if they hated her previously.

I noticed this in my brother. Early-on he was a terror to the community and to mom. When, years later, he finally "snapped-out" of being such an unempathetic d***, he expressed more love for mom than the rest of us ever did.

Almost like he was "internally sorry for all the harm he caused with our mom and was trying to atone for it", or something.
