Still Waters Posted June 26, 2016 #1 Share Posted June 26, 2016 The dark bordered beauty moth is heading towards extinction at its last site in England, new research has found. The tiny, rare insect is now found only on Strensall Common, an area of protected lowland heath near York, having been lost from Newham Bog in Northumberland. But scientists have found that even in its last stronghold numbers have plunged by over 90% in the last seven years, with only 50-100 thought to remain. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2016/jun/23/rare-dark-bordered-beauty-moth-faces-extinction-at-last-site-england-york
Claire. Posted June 26, 2016 #2 Share Posted June 26, 2016 Poor things, and they're so pretty to look at. If those numbers are correct, then my guess is that it's a race against time. Hope they are able to save them.
