50 Baltic Fleet officers booted

MOSCOW, June 30 (UPI) -- Russia's Baltic Fleet of warships lost its two top leaders in a sweeping dismissal of officers by the Russian Defense Ministry.

Adm. Viktor Kravchuk, commander of the Baltic Fleet, and the Fleet's chief of staff, Sergei Popov, were among 50 high-ranking naval leaders dismissed from their positions after the fleet was subjected to a month-long inspection that ended June 10. The inspection noted incompetence, deficiencies in training and misinformation regarding the state of the fleet.

"The defense minister and members of the Defense Ministry collegium expressed sharp and principled criticism of the activity of officials for serious shortcomings revealed in their work. On the results of an inspection and discussion at the collegium meeting, the commander of the Baltic Fleet, the Fleet's chief of staff, as well as a number of other officials were dismissed by the defense minister for serious combat training deficiencies, as well as distortion of the real state of affairs in their reports," the Defense Ministry's press service said Wednesday.

Vladimir Vladimirovich seems to be sending a message about how serious he takes readiness.  The biggest message I see is that he feels secure in dropping the hammer on a lot of military officers without fear of repercussions.  Putin is a fascinating guy.  He's intelligent, fiercely loyal to friends and LOVES to street fight.  He faced down an angry East German crowd outside the local KGB headquarters as the Wall was falling.  He didn't even take a handgun as he stepped out in front of them and basically told them he WAS Russia at that moment and they'd better think long and hard before attacking that particular building.  He is someone that the next president here is going to have to deal with, one way or another.  Thankfully he at least isn't a religious nut.

Little Red Riding Hood hopped along the Wall, on her way to the Grandma’s house and got caught in the angry German mob. Putin ripped his shirt off and jumped on the nearest bear (it’s full of bears in Berlin, I mean, the city was named after them after all) and charged fearlessly and so fast the wind that followed the hero on the galloping beast was mowing Germans down.

Putin gently took Little Red Riding Hood in his mighty arms and they rode into the red dawn glistening in the horizon.

Then everybody woke up because I was throwing up so loudly. 

 

And Putin truly isn't a religious nut. He just manipulates the people with the more orthodox version of Orthodoxy, together with church leaders whose wealth is probably just a sign they're so saint God wanted to reward them right now, without waiting for them to arrive in Heaven.
