NASA Selects Five Mars Orbiter Concept Studies

Quote

NASA has selected five U.S. aerospace companies to conduct concept studies for a potential future Mars orbiter mission. Such a mission would continue key capabilities including telecommunications and global high-resolution imaging in support of the agency’s Journey to Mars.

The companies contracted for these four-month studies are: The Boeing Company in Huntington Beach, California; Lockheed Martin Space Systems in Denver; Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems in Redondo Beach, California; Orbital ATK in Dulles, Virginia; and Space Systems/Loral in Palo Alto, California.

I just wonder if we are going to Mars because we can or need to for even further exploration to other planets in the solar system.  Of course the conspiracy people may say we are going because NASA found something they aren't telling us about. I don't know why some people think we need to be told of every little "happening".  If we were told there would probably be more panicking than ever for no reason.

We can't sit on this rock forever. We are explorers from the time we stepped out of Africa.

We are going there because it is potentially habitable and could sustain an element of Earth's civilization. At some point in time, Earth will suffer a catastrophic event that will erase humanity from this planet.
