I'm old and flighty so it's a long list!

Started off by going to art college; waitress; worked at three trekking centres taking the rides out; nursery assistant; qualified as a nursery nurse; children's nanny; 'Girl Friday', mainly looking after horses and bullocks, but also housework, gardening and helping my boss on her yacht; barmaid; worked in a gift shop making the gifts; took a Stud & Stable Husbandry course; kindergarten assistant; kindergarten teacher; school minibus driver; took a course in Rudolf Steiner Kindergarten teaching; assistant in a Camphill weavery(special needs students); painting ornaments in the tiny Antiquark factory; running afternoon club for the over 60s.

What is a trekking centres? Sounds interesting ha

Worked at a Little Caesers from 1995 to 1997. Graduated and worked construction for a summer, then as a janitor at a baker<_<, worked at a vet for a week (wtf people), did stock work at a Toys R Us for 4 months (best job ever). Worked at a grocery store as a bagger for 6 months before I decided to work for myself. I've been a machinist since mid 98.

Pony trekking. They have anything from 20 to 100 ponies and horses for beginners and experienced riders. Usually the ride would be out all day, stopping at a remote pub for lunch. My job was to take care of the horses and their tack, saddle up and then lead the ride(safely!) for the day. At the end of the day the horses had to be watered, fed, brushed off and then ridden bareback back to their field.

Lol I have to know.  Why the vet for only a week?

Not sure really. The place closed down a month later so that was probably why I only got a week in. Wasn't a difficult job to do. I was the handler. Which was funny when some of the owners would warn me about their dog, they'd (the dogs) all come up to me wanting to play.

98 worked for my dad as a joiner / timber machinist(miss the old mortice and tennon machines), did motor vehicle at a local college at the same time, went to audi as an apprentice(sucked big time), left to fit kitchens(really sucked), worked at a local garage which wasn't to bad, but boss was an ass, went to an engine specialist, loved rebuilding heads, could do a K series in a little over 3 hours and rebuilt the engine on my van with a polished and ported head, bored out to a 2.1 litre.

Then left to start in the recovery industry, must be about 2003 and been in it ever since, same company for 10 years and moved to another firm approaching 3 year ago now.

Miss the trucks though, could make the wrecks dance on a winch cable and was only ever unable to get something on 2 occasions.

When I left school I took up a trade and became an apprentice.  For nearly a decade I stuck within such areas until a friend coaxed me into going on a computer course.  This eventually led me into a totally different direction career wise.

Im currently (last 4 years) a carer - crap hours, questionable pay.

Before this I did a 9-5 office job helping unemployed people. (3 years with REMPLOY) Dodgy Dave Cameron ( Ex Prime Minister) took the business from under our feet and gave it to one of his Australian friends - without warning.  I then spent 4 months working for its new master before resigning.

Before this, similar role (3 years) but more outdoor/hands on with the long term unemployed, as they learnt new skills.

Before this, 5 years working as part of a team who refurbished PCs, recycled free of charge, set up equipment in houses & officers.

Spent over 4 years as a painter and decorator and 5 before this as a heating engineer/bricklayer.(My van and all my tool got stolen one night which ruined my stake in that field.

I studied economics at Copenhagen Business College, but I never finished. For many years I worked in various positions at the largest retail company in Denmark. Then for a while I worked at Copenhagen International Airport, but today I work for a company that manufactures precision aluminium products. I have found that I like working with machines more than I liked working with numbers.

Basically I like trying new things when an opportunity comes along.

Heh, so many special people.

Worked for about two years at a place that manufactured fuses for medical devices (or something) then went to college, got a degree in computer graphics but there were no entry jobs (the so-called 'entry' jobs wanted two years experience. Go figure)

So I worked at a smattering of part time jobs here and there and have been working as a "heath aide" for a neighbor for the past six years. So basically I had no "career" just jobs (which is basically all a career is). That's it.

Let's see, I worked as a cashier in retail at a dept. store, clothing store (unloading and putting clothes out on the racks and keeping track of the fitting rooms), cashier at a carry out for quite a few years (really liked that job), waitress (found out that I was not cut out for that), child care for 4 children (which I thought was fun), yard work during the summers (mowing, trimming, raking), and finally decided to go back to school (got my G.E.D.), went to college and got an Associate's Degree in Nutrition and Food Management.   Finally found a job I truly enjoy, teaching adults and children about basic nutrition and also helping with things such as tube feedings, etc.  Although working with the general public can be quite challenging, it's also quite rewarding.   :)

I sincerely hope that's not the case for you... Any amount you can manage to put away is a help and a person should start planning for retirement as early in their work life as possible.

I do know a few people who made no provisions for retirement - and now that they are "of age", they are looking at menial jobs to just get by... It's sad - but largely their own fault - though I am sure there are others who find themselves in this mess through no fault of their own... Never give up though - it's usually not as dark and stark as we think it is...

I've planned for retirement 3 times already. Then something always comes up. So I'm looking at a life of constantly working. Tis the results of my choice it be.

Joined the Navy straight out of school, served on HMCS Iroquois and HMCS Algonquin,  before moving on to JTF2 (partly due to severe sea sickness). Was dishonourably discharged after 10 years of service due to going off the rails slightly, and during my "off the rails" phase i joined the Catholic Church, (dont ask), after wasting a few years trying to sort my head out i finally left the faith and started working as a night watch man on a building site, left that job last year, moved to Scotland this year and now have a civilian based position with the Royal Navy.

Looking back i just wish i had left school and became a dog walker or work in a pet store, but heyho thats the way it goes.....

Started off mowing grass,

Then I pumped gas and worked in a General Store, worked weekends cleanup in a sawmill, went to college, was a graphic artist, darkroom technician, silk screener and worked on a printing press.  Then I went back to college and became a media producer and studio/darkroom photographer. Then I left the city and became a carpenter, sign painter, silvicultarlist, ghost town restorer, fought forest fires, local historian... I've left out a few.

Now I'm mowing grass again, waiting for retirement.

I started with the lovely position of Janitor at a local "Hospital for the Criminally Insane!"  Crap pay and a terrible boss led to installing Cellular Phones and commercial radios in cars and trucks, and semi trucks, dump trucks and more garbage trucks than I care to remember!  After that I worked a temp job at a Honda engine casting factory.  From there, I joined the USAF and loaded Bombs and Missiles on B-52 and F-16 aircraft, as well as maintaining the weapons systems.  After being medically retired with kidney disease, I got a job at an auto parts store until starting college and getting my degree in Mechanical Design Engineering Technology and starting work for a Landscape Architect of all things!  Finally had to retire for good after Thyroid Cancer kicked my butt!

Now, I homeschool my 14 year old son which is more rewarding and more frustrating than all of the other jobs that I've had!!
